Broken coccyx and sacrum

After a fall cross country last weekend I managed to break my coccyx and sacrum bones, whilst on bed rest I have been looking at things that could help me out when I get back to riding.
Has anyone done the same and got any suggestions?
ALso has tried the Acavello ortho coccyx seat saver? If so gel on or gel out??

Ouch, hope you're not in too much pain and have a quick recovery.
I've sat in a regular acavallo gel out. Its comfortable and just the right amount of grippy I found I felt really secure in it.
I've heard that the gel in can leave a sort of print on your saddle so personally I'd choose gel out on that basis.
Incidentally I use an acavallo shock absorbing type gel pad for the horse, I was really pleased after a lesson in very hot weather a week or two back that despite being between the saddle and saddle pad on a hot sweaty horse that the gel pad was really cool after I took it off - good to know it's not adding to heat

Ouch I'm sorry to hear you have this injury. I injured my coccyx approx seven years ago from falling down the stairs top to bottom in the seated position. I'm sorry to say that your recovery will likely be long and painful. Mine took nine months to heal completely (i.e. to stop hurting at all) and the first time I rode - which was probably a few months after - I had to get off half way round the short hack and walk home. I would have probably bought one of those coccyx gel pads you mentioned if I had known of their existence, as the pain was so bad I would have tried anything to lessen it. Anything with a cut-away part will help, I'm sure, although I doubt it will diminish the pain completely. Just don't rush back into the saddle. You have my sympathy and empathy OP!

I would also buy yourself a good coccyx cushion if you haven't already bought one and take it everywhere you go where you will be sitting down. Omg I'm just thinking about the pain and it's making me feel a bit queasey.

I feel your pain - I did this some years ago after bruising the area a few times previously. When you can - look into Bowen - mine only really stopped hurting once I'd had Bowen on it. It's gentle and non invasive but I'd recover a bit first.

I feel your pain as I badly damaged mine and now have an unstable coccyx that no longer has strong enough ligaments to hold it in place so it dislocates out of position everytime I sit, stand or move. Then everything started to unravel and I now have SI joint disease that is really very painful on a daily basis. My mum has this though and my nan has it so I think there might be a genetic predisposition to it in our family.
I use a gel out seat saver and go for regular chiro sessions.

Ow, I feel your pain. Mine took at least 6 months to heal, and I had to ride during that too (day job), but sitting on a chair was more painful; probably the most painful thing I've ever done to myself. No advice other than to be gentle with yourself.

I did that ones, years ago 70's, every time
I move on the chair the bone moved . Eventually it heal no issue since

Reading this unfortunately bring back painful memories for me to. My recovery was about 18 months and I still remember the immense pain the first time back in the saddle. Trying to get off was the worst. Take your time and don't rush, that's what I done and boy did I pay in the long run!

Mine is still horribly painful 7 years post (and unsure what brought it on, jumping but didn't fall off). It's a nightmare. Wishing you a complete recovery!

I cracked my coccyx about twenty years ago, it was incredibly painful and you have my sympathy. I used to take a coccyx cushion with me everywhere (work, study, even visiting people) because otherwise the pain of sitting down was too much.

When you have healed up a bit, it is worth seeing an osteopath to be shown exercises to help keep it stable. It takes me two minutes a day to do the stretches and they keep me pain free.

Fingers crossed for a swift recovery.

Poor you, I fractured both sides of sacrum side and had a lot of soft tissue injury five years ago, so know the pain you will be... I couldn't ride, drive or sit for about four months, and I think the full recovery took at least nine months. Once my injuries had healed, I had lots of physio which really helped and doing four gym visits a week plus sessions in the hydro pool to strengthen my core and help the muscle and ligament damage. . The NHS were amazing, all of my therapy so was free (gym, hyrdo, physio) and even though I normally hate the gym, I did my exercises as instructed! As for riding, I used the gel out seat - was fab when I first returned to riding but once I was completely healed and fit, I went back to my Heather Moffat gel seat saver as I found the Acavello one too much and I felt "stuck" to the saddle! But they are fab when you first return to riding as they really cushion any impact! But the most important thing is to get your core muscles fit and keep doing the physio exercises even after you've healed. But for the next few months - rest is so important, with occasional gentle walk around using crutches just so you don't seize up. And someone told me to eat lots of cheese for the calcium to help heal the fracture. Not sure if that was entirely true, but was a good enough excuse to lay on the sofa scoffing lots of cheese and biscuits for several months..... :p
