Do play on the safe side. If you turn the crack into a full out break you'll be off at least 12 weeks. Because collar bones can't be put in a plaster cast they don't heal well unless they're pinned. Not nice and leaves a big scar! Check with your doctor but I'd guess at least 6 weeks.
I snapped mine clean in two and wasn't 'allowed' to ride for 6 weeks! Mind you to be fair I didn't really feel up to it anyway. It'll depend on the severity of the break and your pain threshold really but generally it takes 4 to 6 weeks for bones to mend as far as I know.
I borke my collar bone riding a year ago when i was 13, i was advised not to ride for 6-8 weeks and not write either (was on my writing side) i waited six weeks until i rode and it was painful (mine had snapped in half).
I broke mine in two and fractured it in another place at same time, and wasn't allowed to ride for 8 weeks, i (very stupidly) rode after 4 and was in severe pain
then a physio (was actually physioing on my ankle but i complained my collarbone hurt so she took a look at that too
) said the bone didn't fuse properly due to this, and it will always be slightly misaligned- so i now have a permanant visible lump on my collarbone
not nice. So please leave it at LEAST as long as you feel you should!!
Mine took 6months!!!! However the break displaced by about 1" and it should probably have been pinned - still buggered and have a big lump where I broke it. I'm sure yours will heal much quicker, but give it time.
Oh, please be careful ... very careful. You may not realise how fragile that crack is - I didn't and 8 months later am still under the hospital.
I cracked mine in February - on the xray the bone just had a split in it. A&E put me in a stupid cotton sling that was too loose and was useless. A couple of times, when I moved, I could feel the bone grating a bit - hurt like hell, but then on the Saturday morning, after 3 nights of laying on my back hardly sleeping, went to put myself up out of bed with my good arm and the bone moved. It was excrutiating. Ambulance and trip to A&E and spent next week mostly asleep, high on painkillers.
One op later to plate it and one op in the pipeline to remove the plate ... I wish I had been more careful.
I really hope you rest and give yourself time to heal and are not in too much pain.
Well mine experience is a little more positive, but as others say do be careful. Cracked mine clean in two feb this year, did not go near horses for a week, then gradually built up and was walking her out in hand by week 3. Got back on exactly 4wks after. Has healed really well just a little wonky
