Anyone had one?

My delightful donkey broke mine last Friday and now I'm bored! So was wondering how long until you were back riding again?

Had broken one when I was younger and was back riding again in two weeks but I was half my age then

I was thinking by next weekend?
Really want to get stuck in to some dressage

As a nurse, I'd say wait 6 weeks, as the victim of an RTA and no fracture but a very sore collar bone (seat belt) mine is still giving me gip after 6 months? Sorry

Echo this - I tried after two weeks - hurt like hell, and trouble is if horse spooks or you are holding yourself awkwardly because of pain you could end up doing more damage

but then if you have a steady horse you might be able to try sooner?

Good luck - at least there's HHO for the boredom

I echo Arwen's experience: I got back on after about week (in a skirt my friend wasn't riding my boy properly!). I tried one handed with bad arm in the sling and then used both hands - pony tripped and jarred my arm & I got off & fainted with the pain!

I was told 6 weeks for mine & I was indeed jumping 6 weeks after doing it, I was only 15 at the time though and rules were there to be broken!

Broke mine last March when horse slipped and fell sideways right down on th road. Was more worried about him, and only realised when tried to move my shoulder and it crunched! Doc gave me 4 weeks signed off work and 6 weeks til should ride again. I thought it sounded fab being off work but being stuck at home was sooo dull! Spent all my time on websites! ha ha

Did try and ride early on but it was sore and my arm felt week. It still gives me a bit of jip now but i try to ignore it - was told my consultant that collar bones weren't very important bones anyway!!! (felt important enough the amount of pain it gave!!!)

I broke mine during a jumping lesson when the horse belly flopped and i went over its head, then i got back on and carried on jumping!

it hurt like hell and the bone healed wonky so i have a permanent weak, painful arm and lump on my shoulder where it doesn't sit in its socket and this is 4 years later....

so my advice would be give it a lot of time 6-8 weeks MINIMUM, before you even think about riding again or you risk doing what i did!

I was told 9 weeks, I went back to work after 4 weeks but only doing lighter jobs, rode after 9 weeks, left me with a lump, still nags now and again and can catch me out if working at an awkward angle ect 3.5 years later, about 3 weeks after I did it I tried to jump onto a gate pillar to watch daughter in the menage, AAAAAAAGRRRRR, just like a knife stuck into me, felt a bit like Dracula with a wooden stake stuck in me for about a year.
Tell you what bloody hurts as well is pulling a groin muscle, that took weeks to stop hurting, did that riding up an embankment, just went pop, jeeeeezzzz, like physco sticking a knife in your groin, rode back to the yard hanging round his kneck in agony whispering in his ear dont trot please dont trot as I had no leverage to pull him up, tried to ride the following week, big mistake, took about 3 weeks and then still hurt like hell.

I was told it would be 6 months before I could ride as I did a very good job of breaking it so I had it plated and was hacking 2 weeks later.
