Hello. I had a very nasty fall a month ago and broke my collarbone. It isn't healing well and I'm having it plated/screwed tomorrow. Just interested to hear of others experiences with this particular injury, and recovery process. Thanks.

Mine was still broken after 4 months and finally started to heal after 5 and I’ve had loads of problems since so I am pleased for you that you are getting it plated. It should aid your recovery and long term prognosis greatly. I would invest in a private physio if you can as NHS physios are only allowed to do so much

Thank you. Yes, I'm hoping it will help, as I'm in a lot of pain at the moment. I will go with a private physio. I'm sorry that you have had problems with yours.

A friend had her collarbone plated and screwed. She wasn't allowed to ride for a while but it healed well and she was riding again within 6 months and a year later is competing again. It was a long job in her case but definitely worth doing it. The reason she was told not to ride was because the plate was stronger than the bones and if she fell again it could have gone again and at that point be unmendable. Good luck with it.

Thank you. Yes, I'm prepared for it to take a long time before I'm able to ride again, but after the experience I've had, I'm in no rush!

I broke my collar bone and had it plated a week later end of July beginning August this year . I didn't have any pain other than it aching at night if I laid on that side it still does this occasionally. I was hacking quietly 2 weeks after the op. I started jumping about 10 weeks later and jumped my first 90 this weekend so feel I'm now back going again x good luck with op x

Thank you. It sounds as if you have made great progress. You mention that you didn't feel much pain - was that the case pre-op or post-op? I'm in agony at the moment! I'm hoping that after I've had the op and everything has been put back in the right place, the pain might ease?

I broke my collar bone - its actually a very long story over 2 years- but it was plated and I was riding in 3 months (2nd plate). Still fine 15 yrs on

No thankfully I didn't have much pain before or after just aching if I laid on that side at night . My muscles around the area went into spasm which pulled the broken bones further apart but presumably also guarded against pain . Didn't hurt afterwards particularly.
