Hi
Im sending my rising 4 yr old Sec D gelding to be broken in this weekend and have two options - Hacking or schooling? Im not going to be showing him this year so maybe hacking would be more suitable? and have lessons on him for his schooling.
Which option do you think would be better?
Many thanks

i think the sensible option is a bit of both, schooling only at that age is likely to produce a sour switched of youngster that is bored with work, and surely you need to do some schooling to make sure you have brakes and steering before you hack out?

Thats what i though - he have to be reasonally schooled prior to hacking.
I doubt very much he'll take him out on the roads before long reining and basic schooling etc...

How strange, I've never considered hacking & schooling to be mutually exclusive. Infact, with youngsters imo the two must go hand in hand, not either/or.
