Haven't been on here for a while but i was wondering if anyone had any advice.

I brought my 5yo in tonight and he appears to have broken two top incisors. From what i can see he has both roots still attached with one of them still having the tooth attached but obviously very loose, think the root is ok but the tooth is broken with the top part loose. He doesn't appear to be in too much pain and is eating ok.

I found some blood on the fence so i think he had his teeth round that. Wonder if he was having a chew on it and got chased off by another horse leaving his teeth behind!

I have spoken to the vet, he is coming out tomorrow morning and in the mean time has said to just feed him long fibre.

Was hoping someone would some be able to offer some experience/advice as this is a new one on me!

He needs to see the vet asap.......... just think if you had a tooth hanging on by it's nerve OUCH! I'm surprised the vet said to leave it untill the morning?!

My boy pulled out three of his lower incisors. He had to go into hospital and have a minor operation to remove the bits which were left and tidy up all the gum line.

He manages fine now, but needs to have regular check up's incase the teeth above grow down into the gap. Mouthfull for mouthfull he eats less grass than a 'normal' horse, but I haven't struggled to keep weight on him anymore than usual. I think the only thing that he can't really cope with is short grass.

Hope he's ok, and the vets get him sorted out quickly

Beacon did this with one of his teeth, snapped it right in half when he somehow managed to get his rubgy pelham (the extra ring) stuck over it, luckily he didn't panic or I would have hit the deck. He didn't seem in pain and was eating normally, I phoned the dentist and he too came the next day. He just filed it all down so it wasn't sharp

Thanks for the replies, always appreciated

Just a quick update, the vet came and tidied it all up, he hasn't damaged the root so all being well it should grow back. He is now having the flap of gum washed out and antibiotics, should be ok to ride in a week or so.

P.S. I did have a chat to the vet and we both agreed he did not need to come out that evening. I had touched the loose part of tooth with no big reaction and he was eating fine.
