Well if she's eating like normal that is amazing - the strength of character horses have never fail to amaze me I really hope she pulls through in a pain free way - still not convinced about a veterinary hospital having my horse tho!

Oh how awful PF!

Sorry to say that I think the prognosis is pretty bleak for upper limb breaks, lower limbs are much easier to treat.

I had a horse break a leg years ago and she is still with me (now 27) but would have to say that it was the long pastern which is probaly the simplest break to mend, the cannon bone is more difficult and above the knee - I think, someone correct me if I am wrong, damn near impossible.

someone on new rider forum has a horse with a broken hock (2 places i think) the horse is in its mid 20s and has been on box rest since july but can now go out to graze. Not sure if she is lame or not though.

If the break is above the hock and involves the two major bones of the upper limb the vet should ahve really have had the horse pts at location...poor thing. Very bleak me thinks but do keep us updated on what the vets do...I would be interested to hear if they can save her.

Astonishly she is STILL loose at the yard, hopping round and stuffing her face. I'm absolutely gobsmacked at the resilience of this little mare! Fabian tells me the painkillers ran out a couple of days ago too (despite him asking and asking and asking the relevant people to get some more- He's used up all my stuff) She is definitely, so I've been told, getting picked up tomorrow... God knows if she hasn't made it worse...

I know a horse (don't know the full details) but he fractured his leg around the hock somewhere and he was written off by the vet and owner was told prognosis was poor. He has 18 months off and brought back into work slowly and is now jumping 2ft 6 comfortably. I think it's taken a few years to get him there tho.

NO!!! Still there. So it's now NINE days since she broke her leg and the vet school hasn't come to pick her up nor has she been put to sleep. I can't think what else to say that will make an impression on these tw*ts.
On the plus side (if there is one!) she's getting painkillers and is still eating, well, like a horse.

Me thinks a call to the RSPCA is in order,

Anyone agree.... cant believe if its as bad as it sounds that no one has thought of it.

Sorry if mentioned before but cant believe that no one has done it, if it was a child it would be in care by now!!!

Poor horsey! I have no idea of outcome, but must have been in agony to be left for so long without serious painkillers! I broke my tib and fib recently and the pain while waiting for 45 mins for ambulance was just unbearable, and that was lying completely still! Hoping there's something they can do, horrible situation to be in.

She was still there on Saturday... they were going to pick her up on Monday, but I don't know if they did. Horrible, horrible situation, and yet she was coping amazingly well. I can only assume she has an extraordinarily high pain threshold because she was hopping around all over the place eating heartily when I left. That's over 2 weeks she's been like that

No RSPCA here in Argentina.

If I were still in Argentina and on my own computer I could post a pretty nasty pic. Do you really believe I'd make something like that up? Why on earth would I? I can promise to post the pic when I get back to Argentina at the end of Nov if you like.

It has been mentioned before and as I've explained; this is the back of the world, there IS no RSPCA and the people responsible for this horse are fecking ignorant idiots.

Could the vets have 'forgotten'?
I suspected there may not have been any RSPCA/ILPH over there!
humm...presumeably she is on bute or something?
Understand about not wanting to get kicked out...
PResumeably the only option for her is going to be PTS as I woul dhave thought at this stage that the liklihood is that any healing time is lost?

I would've thought too that the longer she's left the worse the chance of any recovery would be. She is on Bute and I imagine that would mean she might rest her leg more and make it worse... it seemed more disfigured when I left. It's quite possible the vet forgot... TBH I think the people in charge of her should've just got their heads out of their arses instead of having a meeting to decide what they could do with her and just put the poor animal to sleep the day she was found.... Utter w*nkers!!

I am new to the forum and assumed that everyone was in england DOH!

Never mind I shall remember in future not to assume everyone has the support we do in this country.
