I told my tale of woe about breaking my leg/ankle (It's the tib and fib but near the ankle joint) on this thread http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=512241 but I have now gathered a folder of pictures all taken by the friends that have been taking me to hospital appointments. They are x-rays and pictures of surgical wounds and extremely impressive bruising.
I just wanted to share them because I am weird and after 5 weeks now stuck at home (or going to the hospital) in a wheelchair I am also somewhat bored!

The pre surgery x-ray

Impressive bruising, a great deal still there five weeks on, I guess that's what happens when you bruise from the inside out rather then outside in! Also better pic of fracture blister (the wound above the surgical site)

Ouch! Big healing hugs- hope you are up and about soon.

I used to do freelance years ago and one horse I was jump schooling broke my foot- it bronk bucked me off and then landed on my foot. Not nearly as bad as that though. Feel for you.

Try good old arnica cream to bruised areas, avoid the broken skin and apply calendula cream to the wound after it has closed to reduce the scarring.
Test a small area first as always to check for reaction and don't tell your doctor or they will moan about it.

Oh and wound looks like its coming on nicely, blisters are common and not to be worried about, but NOT bursting them helps :)

Thats very similar to my break, pins plates and all.(right leg tho) Although i have a messy scar on the outside as it was an open fracture. Loads of sympathy re boredome...I was 8 wks non weight bearing nightmare!! Broke mine 1-1/2 yr ago and alls well, slight limited movement ad some crunching as cartlidge shot to pieces, ut all in all a good reovery. Oh and bio oil made my skin normal quicklyand scars very faint!

Ouch, I am so sorry - I went back to your linked thread, and I'm so pleased you have had lovely support from all aroundyou.

Bio-oil is great for healing scars. As for the boredom aspect, that's really difficult.... sounds like this might be a good time to take up a new hobby that entertains you while you are resting up AND ensure that you take it easy, follow doctors' orders etc. Other than reading, you can knit or crochet, or sew.... we like to think we tough riders don't do that stuff, but they are handy skills for horsewomen. In a pinch I've been able to run up my own iceboots for a problem horse, knit ultra thick cashmere socks for winter mornings in the stables, sew sheepskin onto flymasks so they don't rub... and repair rugs of course. I was never interested in domestic "arts" until I realised they could be useful with my horses!

For riders, being laid-up is a real frustration, and especially so when you have little ones to take care of. I hope the time passes quickly, and you are soon restored to excellent health!

Impressive pics. Thanks for sharing :) (I'm strange like that and love looking at xrays. I wish I had the ones from when I broke my hip and wrist :( . They are impressive to :))

Anyway I hope you are mending well. Take care of yourself and give it time to heal. I didn't with my hip and am regretting it. Although I didn't have much choice (Long story) I can't run anymore, walk wonky and am often in discomfort (should be pain but with my pain threshold it's just discomfort another long story ;) :p ) I can sympathise with the bordom but please do give your leg the proper time to heal. Trust me. ((((((((((hugs)))))))))0 and healing (((((((((((((vibes)))))))))))) to you. xx

Ouch, that was quite impressive!

Having been stuck in plaster/on crutches etc after many knee ops, a broken ankle etc, I know how incredibly frustrating it is waiting for it to heal, and trying to be good!

Hope you make a speedy recovery. x

I used bio oil on my leg when I fracture it (tib and fib) and my scars go the entire lengthways of the lower leg on both sides. :)

Welcome to the bionic leg club :p

Arnica is great for bruising. X

Yes Bio oil contains calendula and is effective for reducing scarring, but the pure calendula cream is about half the price!!

I used to use bio oil before it was famous and it cost £1.99 a bottle, after being reviewed by GOK its price trebled!
