Broken legged horse is home - small paddock rest?

Personally I wouldn't do it Hun I'd just double height the leccy fencing with four or five strips and have a strong battery attached xx

The may nt hoon, but he will, and one kick from them could spell game over ....

I agree, not at all worth the risk.

On another note, your OH gave you 2km of gift wrapped fencing for Christmas.... That really touched me, how sweet!

I'm glad your boy is on the mend and at home, stick to the plan, the time will pass in no time at all x

Thanks folks.

Fides and Queenbee, he is fine now, and starting hacking out to get him fit again! I did go down the electric pen route (which worked fine for all but my back lawn, which is now trashed) though not for as long as they initially advised - I did consult my vet and discuss with the horsepital though - by the time he went out he was sound for pretty lengthy handwalks so well down the road to recovery.

We are so pleased - it was so close to becoming a catastrophic break, it is amazing that he has not only recovered but seemingly with no adverse effects. Weipers Centre were superb, as was Wardhouse Equestrian Centre where he went for his box rest.

It was very sweet, though seeing the state of our lawn I suspect he might regret it - still less grass to cut :) He does do good presents - I got a tipping poo trailer for my birthday!

Not sure if this is of any use to you at this point but my horse fractured his tibial crest in July (kicked out hacking) and when that happened I was recommended this: http://www.coreelements.co.uk/what-equi-elements It is a silicon based supplement, silicon has been shown in trials to help with bone strength. I can't say for sure if it made a difference obviously, but I have been pleased with how he healed. I got it on my insurance and I am still using it now as am within the claim year.

Thanks that looks really interesting. His fracture has healed really well, lots of new strong dense bone, but I am sure that there is still a lot of strengthening going on. He gets Pro Balance Plus supplement, Cosequin and Turmeric just now - I will look into silicone too.

How did your horse heal Fuzzypuff? Is he back working now?
