I broke my pelvis in two places whilst cantering last christmas. Its almost better now but my doc has advised not to ride as my pelvis wont be as strong as it use to be. Im really upset by this, what would you do??

Oh painful- you poor thing. Whilst im not recommending you go against your Dr's advice....
My friend broke her pelvis years back now (about 5 i think) and her Dr said it would not only be fine to ride once she felt able and was given the all clear by her Dr but that it could help keep the pelvis mobile and prevent future stiffness.
She's since had a hip replacement and is back riding happily. She only hacks but can thats all she did anyway- its what she loves.

Get a second opinion! (depends I guess on your age - if you are a more mature person he may be worried about osteoporosis but assume they would have checked bone density when you first broke your pelvis). Has it been plated in which case the doctor would be concerned should you fall on the impact to the plates?
Sorry to hear about your accident, but IME doctors are ultra cautious unless they play rugby, go mountain biking or ride! I would also talk to your physio who will be able to give you exercises to strengthen the muscles and ligaments that hold your pelvis and they will always be able to advise you about riding. Obviously none of the above applies if you never fall off :p

What part of the pelvis did you break? If you did it cantering then I would guess the inner ring? Tbh if u broke the outer you would have been in traction!
I broke mine in 3 places 2 years ago was back riding within 4/5 months. I would get a second opinion. I don't have any bother btw the odd twinge now and again :)

Second opinion would be a good idea. It must be possible to get a scan or something to find out how well you've healed. Best of luck.

A friend of mine broke her back in a freak accident in a school, was told if she rode again she could end up never walking again.
she chose her horse carefully and is back in the saddle, albeit just hacking
