Millie came in with a kick to the hock tonight. Have cleaned it up the best i possibly could in the really bad lighting on the yard, and have bandaged the lower leg (the whole of the lower leg is swollen) and have plastered the wound with purple spray. Will go and clean it up properly early tomorrow morning, but im not sure whether to keep her in, or turn her out?? Im a bit paranoid about it happening again, and there is nowhere else i can turn her out.
Obviously if its much worse i will call vet, but she was ok for me to play with it and wasn't lame on it.

Any advice please??!
 
Check how deep it is in the morning because of the risk of joint infection. Mine had a kick on the inside hock and the vet said if it had been a centimetre higher he would have had to go to Newmarket and have the joint flushed out. But that is worse case scenario, hopefully this isn't too bad. Check for other injuries further down as kick on hock joint shouldn't lead to swelling all down lower leg unless she hasn't been walking on it.
 
personally on a new wound that looks like it may need a vet i do not use purple spray, it obstructs the view so to speak, the best thing u can do is to use a high concentrate of salt water, if its a punture wound the syringes that you get in kitten wormers are great for this,

do you have any bute? bute is a anti inflammitry so would help the swelling,

being out and moving around will help, but if its a open wound and any chance of dirt getting in then i would either cover it or leave the horse in and walk out by hand a few times a day. but as with us, wounds do heal better when the air can get to them.

infection in a few days time is what you need to think about, it can be well worth a call to the vet just for a course of antibiotics.
