hi all
Am so gutted. Have spent a fortune on harley this year, wolf teeth out, saddle refitting, remedial shoeing etc. just got him going again, entered first show and he gone lame! Vet blocked his foot and it wasn't that so she has said it is his hock, probably spavins or suspensory damage. Having read about both, they both sound like career ending injuries. Am so upset

How old is he SM? And what does the vet say? Don't know too much about suspensory ligament damage but I think it can recover, although it may take a ton of box rest. Spavins also can resolve though whether ned could continue to compete might depend on the level of competition you were hoping for.
 
My horse had spavins aged 11.

He had steroid injections and they started to fuse. I stopped jumping him at this point for his benefit.

Ligaments/tendons take about 6-18 months to settle down.

I wound tendoneaze was very helpful.

I am sorry about your horse. My horse is riddled with arthritis at 15 and I am devastated, but at least he is still with me.

PS, my horse when he split his DDFT was recommended to have regular gentle exercise during box rest and when I felt he was ready, was turned out into a small paddock.

Its finding the happy medium between gentle exercise (if you dont use it you loose it) and not straining the tendons. The vets were worried that he would develop adhesions as the tendon healed and exercise realigned the new tendon fibres.

he is 9, have had so many probs with him and thought we were finally getting there!!!
Want to do rc eventing, maybe intro be, and bsja (not massive though)
have vet appointment on wed so will see what she says and let you all know

If its spavins and you need any info I had the operation done for my 7 yr old tb in January .It wont end his career but it will take months to years depending on which treatment you pick.Good luck for wed
