Yesterday Dash had a major lapse in behaviour and went off chasing my horse (who happened to be throwing a wobbly at the time but that's beside the point  he has been so good with them so far) and she ended up running over the top of him then turning back to finish the job  Thankfully he managed to duck under the fence before she did but she did tread on his front leg and how it didn't break I do not know but I'm giving thanks for soft ground and young bones!

He is now feeling deeply sorry for himself with a deep cut in his leg complete with stitch and huge bandage plus buster collar which he is completely failing to cope with :( and acting like nobody in the world has ever experienced pain like it - he could be right, it looks agonising :( :( but the swelling has pretty much gone this morning and he is at least going out for toilet breaks without having to be dragged or carried!

O poor boy!!:(

Thank goodness its not broken though - friends boxer got trampled by their horse - cost 2.5k to rebuild him!!:eek::eek:

Get some arnica tablets and give them to him with twice a day (get the 30c ones from Boots/health food shop etc) as it will help with the bruising and healing.:)

Gentle hugs for silly puppy - hope he has learned his lesson and keeps out of their way in future.:)

Hmm I just posted a reply and it vanished

Slinkyunicorn - I go cold every time I think about it but he really was very lucky. Did you friends boxer make a full recovery? Will give the arnica tabs a go, i've got an arnica gel but didn't want to use it near an open wound. Never used the tablets, are they as good?

He is feeling well enough now to be stroppy about it  How am I going to cope with the restricted exercise?? I can't even let him loose in the garden bacause they all play tag round the flower beds :(

The tablets if anything are better as it helps them mend on the inside :)- especially the deep soft tissue bruising. The tablets are only tiny (the size of sweetners) so pop them in his dinner and he won't even notice as they don't taste of anything. Just make sure he has at least two doses a day it will really help.:)

Friends boxer is ok :)- has still got a visible scar all down his leag and gets a bit gimpy when its cold but he does stay aways from the horses now. Insurance won't touch his leg of course:rolleyes:.......Mind you they are partly responsible as they didn't stop him chasing the horses - the horse who did it appeared to do it deliberatly!:rolleyes:

Poor Dash, hope he is soon on the mend, as you say it could have been a lot worse:(, I use arnica tablets for humans, horses and dogs, I really think it helps with bruising.

Aw poor Dash has learnt a harsh lesson, hope he's o.k but will keep his distance now. I use arnica myself but never considered it for the dogs before - good tip! :)

Agreed with slinkyunicorn about the arnica - I was involved in a car crash and had a very nasty seatbelt burn and bruising all down my neck and across my chest - luckily one of my horsey friends at uni had a pot of equine arnica and gave that to me and it took the bruising right down - healed much quicker than it would have done!
Poor Dash - I can't imagine what was going through your head as it was happening! Lucky pooch. I hope he recovers very quickly and is well again soon!

Well, my voice is still a little hoarse from screeching at him in a complete panic :o Not exactly textbook training commands but my brain froze and all I could do was screech "STOP!" once he had ignored my initial recall commands.

Safe to say that he will be kept on a lead near all livestock for a long while yet  Odd though, because up until then he had only ever shown inclination to chase things smaller than him. I was paranoid about the sheep but he barely looked at them
