Broken toe.....can I give pain killers?

My goldie has come in with a broken toe from the garden. Not quite sure how he's done it, but I suspect that he tried to jump up off the patio to the lawn (about a foot high) and caught it on the stone. (He did this about 6 years ago).

I can feel its broken (it feels the same as when he did it before) and have wrapped it up (not too tight, but just enough to give support).

Obviously I will take him to the vets tomorrow, but can I give him either paracetamol or ibuprofen for the pain tonight? And if so how much? He weighs about 35kg and 9 years old. He is limping on it but doesn't flinch when I gently squeeze, but he has always had a really high pain threshold and not much makes him yelp. (He has always been a bit accident prone.)

Any advice appreciated!
Poor boy!

As a fellow broken toe-ee I can totally sympathise with your dog

I'd give the vets a call and see what they say, there should be someone there who can advise you. Hope he feels better soon!

If it isn't too late I would ring your vet and check dosage and brands.

However I know a few people here have done similar, hopefully they can advise.

Although unless he is really distressed and in a lot of pain I think you would be safe to hold on until the morning?

You can give half a paracetamol my old dog has them for his hips he is a border collie X rough collie so around the same size. You may find he just goes to sleep mine tends to. Give your vet a ring tomorrow.
