Had a fall on Saturday and have broken my wrist. Had a plate put in and am due at physio in 10 days time. Anyone know of any supplements I could take to speed up healing? At the moment looking at 12 weeks without riding :(

Hehe, been offerered several horses that you can ride one handed....

Bumping in case anyone has some ideas, I can't be the only one trying to get back in the saddle quickly.

comfrey is also known as knitbone - if you can get it do not exceed the dose as it can have detrimental effect on you and no prolonged use

oooh no, sorry have no ideas to quicken healing though i reckon just resting it and doing movements physio tells you to do would probly be best idea.

Ive got to say id be gutted being out the saddle for 12 weeks! hope you heal fast-put your feet up and have a rest while you've got an excuse lol

Sorry for your broken wrist:( I broke my leg 2 weeks ago and have had it plated so I am in same boat as you trying to get back on as soon as possible!

For suppliments I have calcium and vit d from boots chemists the ordered online from ebay some glucosamine, condroiting (sp), and MSM to help heal. I have damage to the joint surface so thought I'd give the glucosomine and condroiting a go!

Good luck for you fast healing!! :)

Lots of red meat!

I broke my back three weeks ago and asked pretty much the same question :)

I also have Osteocare Plus from Boots. About the size of horse tablets, but hopefully worth it :)

Hope your wrist, and everyone else with poorly bits, all heal quickly and well.

Hugs and hot choccy.

I'm going to be boring and tell you not to push it! Fast healing doesn't really work, especially with something as intricate and complex as the wrist (or in my case, knee). Best thing is to give it the 12 weeks and then take it slow, otherwise it may not heal 100%. Worst thing ever would be an unstable wrist for the future due to too much too quickly.

Having said that, here's too a speedy recovery! ;)

Start taking big dose of vitamin C every day.

I broke my wrist last year and got a complication called RSD (isn't specific to broken wrists). It's fairly rare but can be very nasty - I later found a medical study that showed daily vitamin C doses reduced the incidence of getting it after wrist fractures. I know it's only one study, and it's a rare problem anyway, but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy so it can't hurt to take the Vit C!

I also took some calcium and glucosamene (sp? oh you know what I mean) - don't know if they really help but it made me feel like I was doing something.
