Bromide for Walking Work

My horse has successfully been ridden in walk for 9 days now and is allowed to start trot next Saturday.(Recovery from Suspensory Injury) Suddenly yesterday and today the explosive behaviour came back reacting violently to any odd sound or movement and it didnt help that him having nearly had me off once another rider in the school decided to practice her flying changes by our left ear. Its only a huge Arena and we were staying at the quiet end.

As I was not there for for every feed at the weekend I wonder if he has missed a few doses over the weekend could it work out of his system that quick. The girls wouldnt have fogotten to put it in but may not have ensured he got it all as he just gets a handful of chaff and 10 pony nuts or should I just up the dose do you think he gets a teaspoon twice a day.

TBH I would just give it a few more days of walk work until it works its magic again, I have no idea what a potassium bromide overdose could do but you'd probably rather not find out the hard way! Extra time can only ever do the horse more good, whereas all it does to us is make us wait - which we have to deal with. That's what I'd suggest anyway.

Thanks its not the time that worries me so much as him undoing all my hard really boring soul-destroyg tramping up and down with him over the last few months my Ariat lace up boots are wrecked but I would rather them wrecked than him!

I'm doing a similar thing as you at the moment. Still just walking - I dream of trotting. Anyway, what are the benefits of using bromide over Sedalin (which I am using as necessary)?

Could you tell me more about the bromide?

My mare has three more weeks of walking for her suspensory injury and then the next scan on 19th March... after which we can hopefully start trot work.

I dont know how Bromide compares to other options it levels out their reactions to whats going on around them so they are not actually doped you see no difference except they dont overreact. You give a teaspoon twice a day in feed and it builds up in their system. I have only had one hiccup since he started on it and I think he had missed his doses over a weekend as he was piccy with his feed.
