really wasnt that bad! some nice horses. not much sold at auction and abit hot for human and beast but it was ok. there was one woman there making a right scene over a horse who had been left on a box and i mean making a scene (she called the police and the RSPCA?) the horse was fine and dandy and was prob better off in the box with all the flies ect. must add the box had several large slits in both sides. but all in all an ok day.

Love the one with the little coloured. Wonder what caught his attention....great picture!
Like the wall eyed pony too (bit of a sucker for blue eyes I am....).

Horses were in good condition to what I expected, apart from a couple. I had a good day, but nothing there took my fancy enough to buy (apart from that mini in the first pic) :P

I hope it expands!

My first horse fair and I found it all fascinating! Was reassured that the majority of the horses for sale looked well... well, FAT actually! Yes, there were a few ribby youngsters but on the whole I was surprised by the condition of them and the fact that the majority had clearly made the effort and even given them a bath in preparation....

Few pics...

Lots of mums and babes....

This was a nice mare/foalie combo, although poor bubs still had it's umbilical stump so VERY young :-(

A "trilogy" of particularly nice looking cobs....

A pair of huge, but underweight Shire-types...

We left before the sales part got going (too hot) so no idea how much they actually sold for....

That's one of the things that worry me when these sales are on. Not a haynet or waterbucket in sight, and I dont know about up there, but we hit 29 degree's here today.

look pretty good to me. Lovely cobs just wonderful. Arent there enough youngsters out there at the mo? Thats the only thing thats a pity. Great pics thanks for posting.

Just to add I thought you bought the lot!

Did the horses not sell due to the prices or there being reserves? What sort of price were they making OP, did see what they fetched.
I know that I don't like seeing mares and foals at sales though. No matter how good they may look. :(
Was there an auction pen of any kind at the sale today?
You can pm if you like if you don't want to say so on here as this section is open to all the public.

The prices started from 50 qwid to just over a grand (huge mare and foal in second lot of piccys) alot didnt sell due to reserves not being met i think. Asking too much for what they were :-/ they had an auction 'pen' where they were walked round in. I couldnt believe the size of that mare! She was huuuuuge! Not bad for a 'new' fair i spose.

There were some nice cobs there and only one youngster that was a bit poor looking. We didn't buy but our Friend would have had the thin youngster if the price had been reasonable. Sadly the amount required for him was a bit silly.

I did see lots of horses being watered and most were tied on the shady side of the lorries. The foals certainly did not seem bothered about the other horses and people patting them. When we came back home all of mine were dozing in the sun and ignoring the shade!.

My Friend was offered a very nice black ride and drive cob with lots of feather for £500 but he was a bit small at 13.2

I did feel very sorry for the puppies though especially the tiny jack russel types in a plastic cat carrier.

BinkyMerlin, I did see a Lady taking photos, perhaps it was yourself

I would go again but probably because its only a 15 min journey for me.

i was there too (infact i am in the 5th photo down - in the background, purple jods, walking my big black and white dog)

It was my first fair too and i was pleasantly surprised. Lots of really nice looking horses that i would have happily taken home if i was looking.

I stayed to watch the start of the horse auction and prices were low, but the dog got too hot so i took him home before the end.

I too saw the lady making a scene but didnt know why - so thanks for filling me in ;)

lol yes prob was me :-) i was supprized at the prices some of the horses were selling at, i really did think it was a bit much for what they were? AND selling a head collar that the auction horse was wearing insted of selling the horse because the horse has no passport? what is the point in passports if its that easy? bid on the head collar and get the horse for free? clever... i will maybe go again to see how it rolls.

Thanks for letting me know as I am always curious of auction prices at sales. I guess it's partly because I did a lot of research on auctions before I bought my first horse at auction. A really well run one at Leominster which I would say compared to the two I have visited and against photos and reports I have seen of others is the best I have seen so far :)
I think the mare and foal in that picture was also again in foal. I find this really sad that mares are put to straight away :( Especially when we are overrun by many similar types all across the world. Nice horses but not worldbeaters if you get me and as common as muck. Even though I am a huge fan of gypsy vanners and true gypsy folk too I do hate seeing the types getting exploited for financial gain. I presume the £50 was for a shetland or foal or something? Did the shetland with the saddle get sold with the tack as the saddle didn't look to fit judging by how it seemed to be lifting off the pony's back at the cantle.
I agree with there being some nice cobs there though. Like the blue eyed one but I have a blue eyed myself so a bit biased lol. Also I did really like the tri coloured one at the back of the bay. It had a nice shape to it and by its pose a real presence too. Did that one sell do you know and if it did for how much?
Also liked the black shire/clydesdale type too. Did that one sell do you know?
I would be interested in going to one of these sales one day and having a look ( be hard to go and not buy lol) especially with it being a new sale and not too far away for me.
Thanks for posting the photos and to the other member who did also.
