I have 2 gorgeouse chihiawa x mini pincher 5 months and just wondering how you all coped with season in the bitch as they are inseprable the boy has goolies forming and we have seen him trying to bonk her even though she is not in season yet and I know the day 16/17 day is the height of getting pregnant all I really want to know
is what did you do in this situation when the bitch is in season, they will both be doctored four months after she has been in season.

why not get him done now?

your only other option is to separate them, also every bitches cycle will vary and he is likley to hassle her so thy should be seperated fo the whole season and a couple of days after.

one of my friends bitches had 3 litters and took on day 22 each time

Bitches can be mated from day two to about day 28 - standard mating days are 11 to 13 but not all bitches stick to this. If the male is entire and is cocking his leg he can be neutered now.
Neutering this early is not recommended for larger dogs but tiny breeds will have done most of their growing and castrating the male is better than a puppy bitch needing an emergency spay.

Seperate them. I know quite a few bitches that gave become pregnant on day 5 of season!!
Do not leave them alone together even for 2 mins as a slip mating can still produce puppies.

I phoned the vets and he can't be done untill nine months !!

phone again and insist on speaking to a vet because you have some problems with an uncastrated male dog, don't let the receptionist fobb you of. there are reasons for not castrating a very young male dog but as mentioned he is small and has done most of his growing and the bitch being in pup is far riskier.

if they wont do him then use a vet that will,

Ditto. Besides Canine sperm can live for up to 7 or 11 days in the uterine tubes/fallopian tubes, so hypothetically, if he does succeed a few days before her season actually begins, she may still get pregnant.

Also, a male castrated dog should be treated as an entire dog for 1 month after the castration, because all sperm doesn't live inside the testicles until it is used, without some sperm is sort of stored outside the testicles, and can live for a month in other parts of his system.

If your regular veterinarian doesn't castrate/spay dogs before they're 9 months old, then, as I see it, you have two options:

1 Find another veterinarian.

2 Do what you should be doing anyhow, teach them to be more independent of each other!

Your situation is why puppy buyers in general, should never get two litter mates together. Because regardless if the pair of puppies are two dogs, two bitches or a dog and a bitch, it happens far too often that they're allowed to become inseparable. And that really isn't only a problem if the pair of puppies are not neutered and of different gender, there are other situations where it can become a problem too, e.g. one of the dogs can have an accident and need to stay at a veterinary hospital for a few days, if you should want to have a try at agility you can't take them both out on the course at the same time, they will most likely not die at the same time and how will the survivor cope with suddenly being on its own?

As an example of the later problem, someone that I used to know, have told me about a pair of bitches that she had before I knew her. One of the bitches died around 11 years old (I think it was), and the sister who was left had big problems with doing almost anything of normal day to day things without her sister. She didn't know how to deal with going out on walks on her own, meeting other dogs on her own, meeting other people on her own, hearing scary noises on her own... As I recall, even to do basic obedience things like recall and such had hiccups, because she wasn't used to doing it alone.

The answer to how other dog owners solve problems caused by having two dogs that is inseparable, is that too many of them doesn't solve it (because they didn't realise that it was a problem/because they tried their best but failed/because it makes them feel too cruel to force their dogs to learn to do things separately/because they are too lazy to bother to sometimes take them out on short walks separately/because some other reason). If the problem happens to include a not neutered dog and bitch, too often the result comes 9 weeks later.
