brought horse from melton sale?

The last sale at Melton wasnt to bad as the Trading Standards Officer was checking passports and found only two which didnt match the horses (usually theres a number of coloureds tied up outside which belong to gypos which have no passports or miss matched ones) these very rarely enter the ring anyway as they have to pay commision on the sale!

I remember the little Chestnut Mare with the foal - bless its nice to hear she found a good home bless.

Anyone going to the next sale this Saturday??

I believe a horse of mine was sold there. I sold her as a companion pony and then learnt someone had seen her there. She was being sold as a 15 year old and she was in fact 25 years old.

Unfortunately it is possible to buy decent ponies for peanuts...especially if they are Welsh, grey and colts

This is our boy, who originally went through Holmfirth sales some years ago as a yearling colt..for £50, without his registration papers unfortunately :(

He didn't look quite like this then ;)

Never been there myself but know quite a few good (and bad!) horses which have come from there! You will need to go with your eyes wide open to be able to spot the good from the bad and make sure you take someone experienced with you for a second opinion.

i absolutely loved the big 17hh dapple grey gelding that went to the dealer lady, the one that always buys the big horses. I also loved the 4 year old black KWPN, that was stunning! :)

Why would you buy 2 horses, 3 when the mare foals at a sale, and then put one of your own through the sales ring??? Unless I've misunderstood that seems a bit of a dodgy thing to do :(

Pleased to report that I managed to sell the other mare privately to a super home where she will be able to reach her potential.
She had been for sale for a while and, as many who have tried to sell recently have found out, the market for unproven horses is dire. She was bought 2 years ago for a teenager to ride but boys and schoolwork got in the way! The sales would have been a last resort.
Not everyone keeps horses from birth to death. Where would riders buy them from if this was the case?

The grey was rather classy, it wouldn't have fitted in my trailer though :o
as to the KWPN, I liked it a lot at the first glance, then had a look at its legs...
