…….. and Michael Owen is understandably distraught.

Owen bred the horse, was present at his birth and has nurtured and promoted him throughout his entire career. Our thoughts must go out to the owner/breeder, and to ALL those, to include staff and trainer, and we will all now understand their sense of desolation.

Alec.

I was really sad to hear about the lovely Brown Panther, and am so sorry for Michael and all other connections.

Poignant timing but I received my copy of the Injured Jockeys' newsletter just before it happened: there is a wonderful picture of Brown Panther in it.

Rest in peace beautiful boy.

I went to an Open day at Manor House stables on Friday (pre arranged before the sad loss of Brown Panther last week). The owners lounge is full of photos of him and his trophies. The assistant trainer took us round and no mention was made of BP, but there was one empty stall , no name plate and totally cleaned out which I suspect had been his. So very sad, as you say, Michael Owen was present at his birth and it was clear from the way he spoke about his horses that the assistant trainer really cared for all those in his care.

Very sad.

MurphysMinder, the yard must seem very empty without their stable star. Here is a photo of BP that I took on an Open Day earlier this year.

The facilities and care at Manor House Stables are superb, aren't they?

Lovely picture Tiddlypom. Yes, wonderful facilities, I have walked across the gallops often as it is on the Sandstone trail but first time I have visited the yard. What impressed me was the way the assistant trainer really seemed to care for his horses, and the majority were happy to have a head rub.

I saw MO's tribute on C4, very sad and touching; "I was with him when he was born, shared an experience for seven years that will never be repeated and gave him his last kiss goodbye. What an honour to own and breed him."

RIP Brown Panther

Beautiful Horse and such a tragically sad loss.. I too had a morning at Manor House Stables last year and took quite a few pics of BP, including the lovely oil painting up on the wall in the owners lounge. I'm glad I took it now....

My heart goes out to all that were involved with this majestic horse on a regular basis... xx

This thread has me wondering at the stance of those who oppose racing, and from their standpoint that care and (yes) love of the owners and trainers charges is missing.

A lovely pic Tiddlypom. You must feel privileged as would others who were also able to meet with him.

Alec.

There is cruelty in all equine activity Alec. From the kicking and jabbing in the riding school to the mobbing in the winners enclosure. I see however, that this is displaced a thousand fold by the love and respect lavished upon these glorious creatures by those responsible for them. At least the lucky ones anyhow.
