Does anyone know if you can do dressage in brown riding boots? I have brown tack and brown boots, but someone told me you can't do dressage in them

I am not affiliated or anything like that, in fact K & I haven't done any dressage yet, but I don't want to look like a twit as I go into the arena and get laughed out!

Anyone any ideas? I do know you are supposed to match your jacket to your boots, but that is it really!

you won't get laughed out of the arena at all. esp, unaffiliated. As long as you are smart then brown leather boot or gaitors (not chaps) are fine. Boots don't have to match your jacket, or your tack. A hacking jacket is more appropriate for unaffiliated dressage.

note if you have brown gaiters then your jod boots should be brown too).

As long as you look smart and not like you are going in for a fancy dress comp or anything you will be fine! You should really have long boots or short boots with gaitors (chaps aren't liked by judges) if you are on a nedddy over 14.2 and as Ongo247 said, a hacking jacket will probably look best.

Go and enjoy it! At unaffilitated level the judges are there to encourage you, not to laugh at you.

any good judge should be looking at your rding & way of going , some wouldn't even register the brown boots

i did an affil elem a few weeks ago with my horse looking terrible after travelling badly & sweating heavily ( grey , he looked awful!) we scored just fine

so no need to worry , most judges would rather see a well schooled horse with nice rider than 'all the gear & no idea'

Thank you guys! Was just a bit worried! I have a gorge pair of Harry Hall brown long boots, but was worried about doing dressage in them and getting told off!

We have quite a bit of work to do if I am being honest, but I desperately want to start doing something fun!

No, you'll look great baleofhay - maybe it depends on where peeps live but I never see hacking jackets where I am. Don't think I've owned one since I was 12! Brown can loook very nice so I certainly wouldn't worry about that either.
