God its cold, according to farmer temp will go as low as minus 14 tonight.

My poor horsey is not coping very well she is just so cold all the time, the poor soul was actually shivering under a 450g rug and a 110g under rug and she is not clipped. So she is now wearing her medium weight under her heavy weight.

How is everyone else and their horsey coping. Im sick of the snow and have decided that its time for summer now!

Had another couple of inches of snow in the midlands! Horses are happy plenty of hay. They seem warm and snug under their rugs, broke the ice on the water again, that was COLD!!
Cant have summer just yet i want a white Christmas!!

they're all tucked up in their barn and toasty warm - just checked them, given them supper and more haylage - smiley ponies!

they've got anything between 2 (unclipped)and 4 rugs on (clipped )

Its freezing in Scottish Highlands - 12 or more tonight I heard.
I am worried all the time about my cob suffering in the cold outside his field shelter in a snow covered field but he seems warm enough underneath, positively roasting. I put his fleece under his heavy weight rug last night. I don't think he is cold but he is doing a lot of running around when he sees me with the feed bucket!
He is having two scoops of Speedibeet and Alfa A with top up of boiling water so its a hot sloppy mash - I think that warms him up nicely.
Breaking the ice every day sometimes twice a day.
But he never drinks any - wonder how he stays hydrated - does he eat snow when we are not looking I wonder?

Don't know what the temp is, but 4 out of 8 of mine are rugged, 2 in LW 2 in MW. they are all living out, not clipped and coping fine. Not quite so cold down here, but still below freezing.

Oh poor girly - is she living out or stabled? Sometimes stables can be even colder than living out.
I had my TB/ID at livery in Northern Scotland and it was colder in the barn than in the open air unless it was blowing a gale, Very poor insulation - it was like Coldiz.
If the walls are damp it can be like a refrigerator.

Rubber matting makes a stable much warmer if you can put a mat or two down it may help her cope.
I know this from personal experience as I used to stand on a rubber car mat when I did winter markets in the 1980`s.
Makes a huge difference.

My horse is only a couple of miles away from hairymolly's and it is bl**dy freezing here! My unclipped ned is out in a 450g full neck and a fleece! Seriously brrrrrrrrrrr. He was still in a 300g quite happily a couple of days ago but given the distinct lack of grass and -10 temps I have wrapped him right up!

My lad is doing really well and maintaining his new (reduced) weight too. He has his usual mw rug on as he does every winter and seems warm enough in that and very happy pottering about outside, rather than using his field stable.
