Horse started limping in rising trot so have had the ostiopath(sp), saddler and nothing found they all suggest it was a brusied hoof though no heat of swelling. She has had a week off and though can walk fine rising trot and canter can be difficult. I have put her on arnica however any tips to make her more comfortable would be appreciated

umm... call the vet, who can prescribe bute, x-rays if necessary, and consult your farrier.

Call me old fashioned, but limping tends to indicate pain therefore the horse should not be in work and veterinary medication is generally required.

Box rest, poultice the foot for a few days to try to draw out anything nasty. Nice deep bed or rubber matting so horse isn't having to stand on concrete. Turn out when suitably sound and be prepared to be patient. It can take a few weeks for a horse to come sound from a bruised sole. I would suggest consulting a vet or a farrier in order to allow them to confirm what I'm guessing is simply a suspicion. You shouldn't leave lameness undiagnosed or untreated.

I hear you both & thanks. She trots up fine, walks fine, sitting trots fine however a combination of hard ground seems to be causing this problem. Obviously most things are out, I've spoken to my farrier, we'll have an absess test tomorrow and shoes are off Wednesday so the farrier can have a look....don'y you hate the fact horses can't talk?

Please don't underestimate how serious a problem subtle lameness due to foot pain can be. Get it properly investigated.

Hmm, Domi was like that a couple of years ago and he did respond to hoof testers, so he was box rested for (i think) 4 weeks in total and then shod with a wide webbed shoe. We have since moved on to hoof pads but thats another story

You can poultice/box rest whilst waiting for the vet. Does your horse have any history of laminitis? "footiness" or uneveness on hard ground can be a lasting result of laminitis.

Ok well the absess detector came back negative, that's a clever bit of kit

She trots up fine, walks fine too and when I sat on her on soft sand she trotted for a bit okly but I stopped this as I wanted to see an improvement. One of the girls noticed that a shoe sounded a bit tinny so the farrier shall be out later to do some more investigations. She is on box rest now which she hates so we'll see how it goes....I wondering if this is down to a stupid loose shoe?

I hope that its just a loose shoe!
Abcess detector.... whats that? I have only seen hoof testers used before to detect abcess, be interested to know what an abcess detector is!
