My horse went lame about a month ago, farrier was out did hoof testers and diagnosed a bruised sole. Kept him in for a week, farrier came out again said he was much better and could be turned out. Couple of days later I tried him in the school and was still a little off in trot so thought I'd give him another couple of days before I try him again. Went to fetch 2 days later and was obviously lame. Box rest again, farrier came out and put pad on. He said leave him in another day then turn out. This brings us to today, he was turned out and when I trotted him up on the concrete he was lame.
Could it still be just bruising or do you think it could be something else? Think I will ring the vet after the farrier has seen him tomorrow :(

Although I'm sure your farrier knows his business, legally he shouldn't be diagnosing and treating anything, except under veterinary guidance. Please call the vet.

Glad you are calling your vet out.
No farrier can diagnose, give a prognosis or treat unless referred by a vet.
Although we farriers believe we have the knowledge to do all 3 I would never act unless asked to do so.
When a horse goes lame for whatever reason the owner must make the vet the first call, this is because should it not be what the farrier thinks it is there is no come back on the him/her.
I hear so many owners say ‘but it costs much more to call the vet and the farriers know so much more about lameness in the foot’ wrong, wrong, wrong. A vet HAS to know about lameness in the foot, and take responsibility for their actions. A farrier MIGHT know about lameness, but has no responsibility for what they do.
Get the vet preferably with the farrier, and they will sort it together and you will have a sound horse in ½ the time and ½ the pain.
