bruised soles

hi i know i posted about this yesterday but didnt get a huge response......any advice for treating a horse with a bruised sole ?

Hello! I have one at the moment - bruised sole in the toe area of off side fore.
Vet out, shoe off, hot poultice on for 3 days (no abscess, but Animalintex helps reduce the bruising) 2 bute a day for first few days, then a couple of days with a cold poultice - he was in at night and out during day in flat field at end of yard.)

Then gamgee pad with iodine and eucalyptus oil against sole, plus thick leather pad, then wide Elastoplast to hold it in place. Of course, he promptly scuffed straight through the toe () so did the same with a rim of black tape to re-inforce the toe. Unfortunately, has also scuffed through THAT idea, so he's now got a hoofboot with rubber inner when he goes out at night and in stable during the day, barefoot but with a thick straw bed right to the door, as you can't use hoof boots 24/7 plus don't want a soggy sole.

It's 2 weeks tomorrow since he went lame with it and I think it's still going to be a while before the shoe can go back on - farrier checked yesterday and still tender on the toe with a raised pulse in that leg.

Any doubts, I'm sure you'll call your vet? Sorry - didn't see your post yesterday, so haven't got all the details, just telling you what I have done. :)

Horses! Don't you just love 'em!

Same as above, but my pony isn't shod.

Vet visit, then poultice for 4 days, after the 4 days, another vet visit and vet said, pony was fine to go out uncovered - but will be sore for a week or two more, and to leave her on soft ground for as long as possible.

Edit: just to say the vet happened to be there on those occasions or TBH I wouldn't have bothered with a visit as I saw the stone and knew what had happened - would just go straight ahead with the warm poultice.

If you don't see a difference in a few days though - then I'd get the vet.

oh thank you - basically he half pulled a shoe off and came in unsound but with no signs of a puncture wound, farrier re,shod him that morning and hes been lame behind for a couple of days - if he carrys on will get vet out but in the nicest way possible dont want to spend loads of money on vets if all they are going to say is rest/bute/poultice ! im going to poultice him tonight and use some arnica and fingers crossed hes ok soon

My horse bruises he sole every so often looning around the field. I normally give him a couple of danalon on the first day and one twice a day unitl sound which normally is in a few days. I alway turn him out as he seems to recover better walking it off.
