<font color="blue"> Excuess me whilst i go into story but it relates completely to the question i have.

We had a new mare up the yard and she went out with the mares into a sectioned off part of the same field, the second day she was out there new mare jumped the electric fencing due to tractor in the field poo picking. New mare was left out with the rest after jumping fence and had been so for about an hour or so before i got there.

Go to the field to get in G. New horse and G go to each other. Had a little sniff and then turned bums on each other for a good 5mins of kicking the living hell out of each other. The way they were going at each other i really thought one was going to end up with a broken leg and all i could do was stand there helpless and watch.

Anyway once they had backed off each other i spent a few mins trying to catch G who was rather upset and nervy. I brought her in and checked her over, hosed her down for over 30mins in total on all the places i had seen she had been booted badly. There were only two minor grazes, one on her belly/rib area and the other on a hind leg.
Popped her in her stable and went to check the other mare over who has one tiny cut on her hind leg, but had no kick marks anywhere else to be seen. (This happened Friday)

Thats horses for you i guess

All seemed ok out there yesterday, new mare was on her own most of the time and i don't think there were any more 'fights'. G seemed to walk out ok but i washed her little grazes off last night before wipping them dry. Whilst wipping them dry she was not happy at all so she is definately bruised quite badly on her rib area and hindquarters. Obviously i am not making her do any work as i know what bruised ribs feel like and its not nice at all. I am giving her some arnica tablets a few times a day to help with the bruising etc.

She is a sensitive mare so i don't want to get on when she is still sore, but i am just not sure how long i should let her recover for. I am putting her out in the field as normal during the day so she can keep moving around and not get too stiff from the injuries. I will keep an eye on how she reacts to being cleaned up daily to figure how sore she is.

My question is how long do you think i should give her off doing work?

Any thoughts, help etc would be much appreciated.
