Hi,

Want to get some new brushing boots for my mare and struggling to find sizes that fit, so was hoping others with rather chunky cobs could offer some recommendations!

She is 14.3 and very chunky with HUMUNGOUS legs.

She currently has some M Woof Wear boots that are falling apart and literally only just do up. Tried her in some new style M Woof Wear boots and they don't even do up. So ordered the MW Woof Wear double lock brushing boots which did up around her legs perfectly but were far too long.

Had a look at the Shires but don't know how their sizes come up - any help would be much appreciated!!!!!!!! :)

Does she really need them?

Only reason I ask is that we have had several "chunkies" in the school over the years - and we didn't use boots on them, even for lungeing!

We could never find boots to stay on them - and I don't recall one of them ever getting a brushing injury!

Isn't that she brushes so much as I want some protection on her legs when we go out hacking - lots of scritchy scratchy undergrowth and think if I put boots on it'll save her legs from getting any scratches.

Would just rather have some protection on her legs than not, probably purely psychological on my part but if I can find some that fit I would like to.

The Equilibrium stretch and flex brushing boot wraps seem to fit chunky legs and horses with lots of bone very well, mine has had his pair for 6 years!

Also the more expensive Wof Wear brushing boots wouldn't fit my horses- wouldn't go round their legs, and on one of my horses when they did do up, they were too long!, but I've found that the Woof Club brushing boots fit them both perfectly!- may be worth a try, I've a few pairs and they fit them really well!

Yeah the M Woof Wear ones she has at the mo are the club boots (the cheaper ones) so may see if they do them in a MW. Stupidly thought that the MW Woof Wear ones would be the same length just wider but apparently not!

And will have a lookeysee about the equilibrium - sounds good

Got the woof wear club brushing boots and the medium barely meet on her legs. Just spoken to Woof Wear who were really helpful but the large will be too long on her legs. They've given me sizes for a variety of their boots and sounds like the Ultra Boots would fit (and be suitable for jumping when we get to that point) but the price is a little scary!!!

This is not fun! Got a couple of people who are going to call me back with actual sizes in inches but most keep referring me to their websites with the generic, 'if they're a 14.3 of course these will fit' size guides. Massive load of help from Woof Wear which may help my search or if anyone has any recommendations based on these:

Their medium club brushing boots (right length but not wide enough) are 9.5" long and 11" wide. The MXW double lock brushing boots (right width (could go down a little) but too long) are 10.5" long and 13" wide.
So by my logic, looking for something around 9.5-10" long, and 12.5-13" wide. Any suggestions!??!

And why do manufacturers not have the proper sizes of their own items!? Makes no sense to me

Oh no- sorry to hear this!!-sounds like you're still having a nightmare looking for boots eh!- do Woof make a MXW in their Club boots I wonder?! would the large club ones fit as they are a tad wider- but obv a bit longer, that is the thing.

If you'd like me to measure my Equilibrium ones which are a size 2 and 3 (med/large) and I could try to measure them in cm , over the weekend- just send me a pm!

If i can think of any other makes you could try or come accross some old ones in my tack room that might fit I shall send you a message!

Nope Woof Wear don't unfortunately - they are one of the few companies i've spoken to who were helpful! The club boots are only M or L, and the L are too long :(

Yeah will PM you thanks! A question though, read somewhere (I think - don't think my brain invented this, although you never know) that they are only any good for schooling and not great to hack in?

Woof Wear did recommend their Ultra Boots which should apparently fit (maybe!) but they are a tad pricey!
