Help/opinions wanted please - My horse brushes, but lives out - not currently booted but wondered if it is ok to have him booted 24/7? Any recommendations on breathable boots? (only needs fronts)

Thanks

I've got Sportabac turnout socks on my TB who lives out 24/7. They are about £30.00. They are made from neoprene & have strike pads. I check them every day to see if they have slipped though.

Personally i wouldnt turn him out in boots 24/7,!They only recommend that the mud boots are worn for 12hrs at a time(cant remember their name??lol)
My lad brushes when worked but not when out,ok now and again he will knock himself but think most do!Could you not use a sausage boot on both legs???

I have left boots on when on 24hr turnout before, but wouldn't recomend unless absolutely necessary. Their legs do get warm especially as most boots are neoprene. If you do have to leave boots on make sure you remove them at least once per day & brush the legs / fur etc. Check for & remove any sweat before re-booting. I would advise having 2 pairs of boots so one pair is worn & 1 is washed, as you will need to wash & clean them regularly. The 'stretch & flex' boots are breathable, but don't offer much protection so will depend how badly your horse brushes.

I would personally be wary of leaving any boots on for that long, can you get your farrier to try and address the problem with different shoeing?

More importantly, where are you getting your extra hour from?!

I could do with 25 hours in a day

I personally wouldnt leave any boots on for 24hrs, theres too high a risk for them to restrict the blood flow...

lol if i had 25 hours i would have been able to ride today!!

I have to keep boots on my horse but so far he hasn't been out all day (only had since November) and i am also a bit concerned- However i figured if i use different boots changing fairly often that may do? I have turnout boots but my horse is miserable in them and kicks violently increasing the risk of injury i figure??
Its a dilemma!!!!!!!!!

You should never boot horses up for 24 hours a day. Could you use a sausage boot/ring instead? Far less likely to heat the tendons up etc. Even the turn out chaps are only designed to be worn for 12 hours max a day, and even then they recommend one day off a week from them.
