Brought my mare in last night to ride, got on her walking fine as soon as I asked her to trot she was lame. Got off and had a look at her foot, found heat in her hoof and when I looked one of the bulbs on her heel was hot and squashy and red in colour under the skin (no wound). I suspect she has over-reached, she has over-reach boots on for turnout as she is prone to doing that, but they were having a hoolie yesterday and I think the boots have saved her cutting herself but she must have had that much force it caused bruising. I applied arnica and witch hazel gel and turned her back out and asked YO to do the same this morning and hopefully she will be ok in a few days.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there any complications I need to look out for. Normally she takes a small chunck of bark off and isnt lame, but this time no wound and lame, typical!!
