I have decided to sell my older sports horse due to the fact that I just cant "click" with him. Im lacking motivation and keep finding excuses not to ride etc..plus I suffer from depression and have a severely disabled child to boot. I love him to pieces but I just dont take pleasure in doing things with him. My 3 year old on the other hand I have an incredible bond with and I just know he is "the one".
The problem is I have no idea what price to put on him...which is where I need some honest/brutal help.
Horse is a 5 year old Sports Horse. Dam is a RID and sire is a Grade A showjumper (sport horse type). He is 16.1hh with more growing to do. Very striking iron grey. Very very green as only really done hacking out but does so alone or in company. Shows a promising jump. BUT he does have sarcoids..
In the current market what should I be looking to price him at..??
The right home is incredibly important to me. He cost £2500 with a month of professional schooling but of course he now has the sarcoid issue.
This is NOT an attempt at advertising so please dont button push...I genuinely need help.

£1.5k? I think he's not done anything since the pro schooling so isn't worth more, but does have sarcoids which would easily knock a fair amount off.

I'd be tempted to advertise at £2k though, with ONO, and be happy to accept £1.5k.

Also to add that he could go with a new bridle and a wintec saddle and liteweight rug. He lives out currently but happy enough in a stable. He has no vices and is good for farrier, dentist etc. He is up to date with dentist, vaccinations, farrier, worming and so on. Gets on with pretty much any horse. Currently unshod.

16.1 iron grey ID cross, send him to me!!!!

Ok on a serious note I'd say providing he's a well put together chap with nice paces and a good head on him, he's worth £2500 all day long surely, sarcoids will put folk off but if the horse ticks every other box and has good potential then someone will be willing to sort the sarcoids out.

Would it rude not to ask for some pictures? * grins*

I would say advertise him at 2500 and be prepared to take less. I had to sell my homebred 2.5 yr old sportshorse last yr, hes a grey leopard spot pb appaloosa and what we didnt realise at the time was he was getting a tiny melanoma on one of his spots, his new owner missed it when she looked at him and gave him a quick vetting ( shes an equine vet ) and it wasnt spotted when he was independantly vetted.

His new owner took him to liverpool and had it lasered off ( even derek knottenbelt and his team had to be shown where it was after the spotty jokes ) and they said it was highly unlikely to return and not worry.

Just because a horse has a sarcoid doesnt mean it will kill them, like a person can have a wart doesnt mean they will get cancer.

The right horse with sarcoids woudnt put me off.

Id be prepared to talk about sensible offers with someone as a genuine home would be my utmost priority and I know Im going to lose money on him. My attitude is that the money is already spent though so its neither here nor there. I just want to put him in a price bracket that is right for his stamp of horse taking into consideration the sarcoids and his greeness. I have no doubt in my mind that he will make someone a fabulous horse xx

That is quite cheap for him I think, but use that to be really picky with who you let buy him - that is the point after all isnt it. For that money you don't want to be mucked about either and definitely don't let anyone pay in instalments. Maybe you could ask if someone on here could vet the new home too if it is too far for you to go and look? Hope you find him a lovely home anyway.

Thats a fabulous idea...thank you. I only want the best for him as I genuinely love him to pieces.
I posted here a while ago as HeadOrHeart asking for advice and the general concesus was sell him..keep my baby and maybe get something more suitable to get my confidence back on. I priced him lower as I am not so concerned bybthat but the home must be first class x

I know its probably a little late but, tbh i'd put him up for £2500 oiro and see what you get in response. The sarcoids aren't the be all and end all like some people like to think, yes you will have to take that into consideration but even so. Also if he has been professionally schooled its not like he's going to have forgotten it all. Lets not forget you have the breeding there too so you are advertising him with his capability prospects. Have you thought of maybe putting him on sales livery maybe you could then ask for a little more as he would be getting worked aswell. I know home is important but if you put him up too cheaply you risk targeting the wrong audience.

I have no problem with your answer at all because you actually gave your opinion but also actually added useful advice as to where to if people aren't willing to pay anything. The other post which just said that they wouldn't pay a penny and left it at that is a both curt and unhelpful (in my humble opinion!)
