Hello!

I'm just wondering whether anyone does this! It looks as though it may be an answer for Pie and I - I'm so fed up with going to local shows to find that the jumping ring is really disappointing - too small for horses, the distances don't walk, the ground is shocking. There are a couple of venues that seem to run classes in our area. He's limited by his age and ability so I don't feel that proper affiliated jumping is really an option and was really interested to hear people's thoughts on club jumping.

Also if you do club jumping would you consider it also still ok to do unaffiliated (at the same height, up to 90cm)? We aren't a world beating combination by any means - we go out and have fun but certainly don't win very much!

A friend of mine has been a member for a couple of years and has thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the fact that they have their own championships.

Some venues only hold club shows, and some have much smaller arenas than you would get at normal BS shows, so not ideal if you had a large striding horse that you struggled to turn, but many are the same venues/arenas as you get in BS. It maybe worth checking that enough of your local venues hold club shows first?

Friend has now progressed to full BS membership so it has worked very well for her.

If you have a venue in reach that hosts affiliated shows you should find their unaffiliated shows are better quality as well. There is no point taking out membership - club or otherwise - if you can't reach the venues!

Thanks - I have 3 venues within about an hour to hour and a bit's drive - but they don't seem to hold very many unaffiliated shows / classes. Seems to be BS and club jumping mostly. Will have a chat to my instructor but I think for £30 I may well go for it (if I get a new lorry sorted too.....)

Agree with the arena tends to be smaller although well built, definitely better than proper unaffiliated competition!
