I’ll start by saying that this is going to be a very long post so I suggest you get comfy :D For the past few months I’ve been digging and digging about B’s past and over the last week I have upped my efforts.
As I find out new things from her past I’ll add them in.

In April in 1967 a little black welsh was born, She was sold to a man for his children (Owner 1) when she was about 10 months old however due to financial and time difficulties he ended up leaving B in a shed in an allotment type yard. B spent the 8 months with Owner 1, then Owner 2 rescued B from this man and paid £20 for her. Owner 2 didn’t have B for long, she kept B in a field behind her house. Owner 3 (K) who was a teenager at the time was riding past owner 2’s house on her Shetland pony, Owner 2 shouted out of the house to K and asked her whether she would swap her shettie for B. After K went home and talked it over with her parents they decided to do exactly that.

So at 18 months of age B went to go stay with K. Inbetween the ages of 18months and 3 years I struggled to find out anything of consequence about B or any pictures unfortunately. She was broken in by K at 3.
I do have a picture of her as a 3 year old though

Beauty did a lot of showing as a youngster, She has 4 handy pony trophies as well as bags and bags of rosettes. She did a lot of showjumping as well, I am attempting to track down photos and I will add them if I get any

She started to grey out more and more as she got older
6 year old

Then in 1979 she slipped on the road and had to go to an equine hospital (we think Leahurst but K can’t remember) but the xrays found nothing and she had some corn cut out of her frog.
Beauty had 2 foals, both of them were accidents as K was told that the two horses has been gelded and they obviously hadn’t!
She had the first foal Afellow (it was Othello however his new owner changed it) 26th of Feb in 1880
As a baby

And then she had the second foal Appollo 11th of March, He was a very poorly foal and it was horribly cold. The vet said he wouldn’t make it so he was handreared by K and B had to be milked. By this time K had 2 children (6 and 8). Apparently B was so calm she would let the children sit under her and milk her!
I haven;’t managed to find any foal photos of him :(

B did a bit of moving around then and ended up on the farm where we are now. It all goes a bit quiet here and apparently B didn’t really do much.

Apart from sulking about being wet!

And then on the 14th June 2012 I saw an advert that was showing a part bred arab for loan and the last line of the advert was ‘who ever loans this pony will also be responsible for my veteran mare’ I responded to the advert and asked if I could just look after the mare!

So we agreed for me to go see her on the 20th and I posted this thread

Initially I was told she was about 39 years, Managed to get a true age eventually.

On the 13th of July I managed to work up the courage to post pictures of her See thread

Then on the 14th October 2010 we had a minor scare

Then just after Christmas we had a major scare and I thought I would lose her

And B was back to her thug-like ways!

This was the first walk ever posted

Lovely thread. She was very lucky to have you:) looking back through them photos she deffiently lived up to her name! Absolutly beautiful and sounds like a very sweet mare.

This is so lovely:), she is gorgeous and has beautiful eyes, well done you for taking on an oldie not many do! Looks like she had a great life with you after a ruff start, i love the attempt at matchy matchy! Her name suited her so well.

How stunning was she at ten! I adore the love you have for her

I'm glad she rebuilt your confidence, will you consider another now as although it doesn't replace her it may help to fill the hole she leaves behind in your life xxx

What a wonderful thread, it was just like a storybook. I loved it. How very lucky you were to find each other - just what both of you needed at the time. She restored your confidence and in return you lavished her with more love than some horses get in a lifetime. I feel so tearful for you - but happy tears because you were so obviously meant to find each other and its a real proper love story of the nicest kind. How lucky you both were and how brave you were to give your heart to her so fully, knowing that her time was borrowed.
Lovely. Thank you so much for sharing xx

I have never really looked at the beauty posts, but have just gone through them, I have a lump in my throat, she is so incredibly lucky to have you. Such lovely threads, and such a fantastic quality of life in her twilight years, it is lovely to see her still being taken out to enjoy the world and have her weekly walks, she looks very well for her years and has certainly got a fantastic mommy who loves her so much.

An absolute joy to read and I will be looking out for your upfate threads from now on. :D

What lovely pictures of Beauty, and so nice to hear more about her, thank you for doing this thread. I loved reading her walks too.

Thinking of you xx

Oh I've always enjoyed reading about you & Beauty, although don't think I've responded to you before. I'm so sorry you've had to say goodbye but you have her such a wonderful last few years :) And this is a lovely tribute.

I think it's brilliant that you took on an older horse. You did a fab job of making her last years special.

I bet she was a cracking horse in her day.

I'm crying as I'm, going through this - this little lady sure has got under my skin. Thank you sooooooo much for posting this !

Remember there are many ponies that need mums like and you, and one very special one will find itself with you before very long - sent by Beauty.

I'll say it again, I just hope I am around to care for Shy so well in his old age.

Much love to you, sm xxx

Thank you so much for sharing :)

I remember well, your first post and what what a lovely person you are to take on a equally lovely old lady.

So very sad now she has gone, but all those memories will be with you forever.

I look forward to seeing further posts, as you gather more of her very long life history.

<<< hugs >>>

I always loved B posts, thank you for sharing those, she was such a lucky girl to have you look after her so well, what a lovely girl too.

Me being nosey, the person who had her third (K?), how long did they keep her for? It's lovely that you have such old photos of her, great to see.
