Hi,

Just a rambling question really, and wondering your opinions!

I'm at uni and my horse will be coming back from his current loan home at the weekend for the summer (4 months while I'm at home) as his current loaner will not be in a position to keep him for another year during my last year of uni due to her youngster being started.

His BS membership will expire on 1st June, do you think its worth re-affiliating him? He's just been doing RC things recently and I will probably be looking for an RC/lower level competitive and hunting home for him for during my final year of uni. The reason being that although he is fab at SJ and eventing up to about 1m he can be unconfident any higher and begin stopping with a rider who isn't on the ball. Pre-uni I have competed him PC intermediate eventing and open SJ confidently, however since he's been out on loan doing smaller things he's lost confidence at this level. From experience finding a home for this type of horse is difficult, as alot of people consider themselves "confident, competent riders" and tell me that they could bring the horse on to a higher competitive level when a horse is being offered on loan that has good experience competing, but from seeing them ride him, I know he would start to get the better of them! (If he thinks he can avoid putting effort in he will!)
When I was looking for this type of loaner last time around some people were put off because he was BS affiliated, so therefore was not eligible for some RC classes. However on the other hand if I can get his DCs at BN, Disc and maybe n/c along with NatAm 2nd rounds at 90 and 100 this would make him more attractive?

Oh and just a summary of him, he's 16.2hh wb x tb, 12 years old. Good conf. successfully shown as a youngster up to county level so good enough to do ridden showing.

Just thinking my options through out loud really! Thank you for reading! (also in comp riders)

You can be a member of BS and compete RC/unaff, it comes down to the prize money won. Most RCs and unaff shows have open classes which are not limited by prize money (or are limited to something like £500).
