any help would be great, chars

the 4 year olds at scope is 1 metre, judged on style and performance etc. If your 4 year old can handle that your doing well as the warm ups are SO busy - there were 90 odd in it last year and spooky rings etc. mine freaked out in the inside in the final but its really good experience.
Not many shows run their own 4 year old classes any more, pyecombe does in the august show, think thats 1m too, and the young horse shows like addington have them with british bred/foriegn sections. their 4 year old is a bit bigger.
there are loads of 5 year old classes though, alot of shows run their own 'series' and have their own finals - like bicton, their 5 year old i think is 1.10 or 1.05 and dorset whose 5 year old is 1.05. They get the horses in the main rings of these shows wihtout you having to push them too much.

I'm based at Pyecombe.

The BSJA used to run their own 4 & 5 year old style and performance classes but they stopped about 2 years ago.

Now most centres run their own classes/series.
Under BSJA rules 4 year old classes have to be run under Table A - two rounds not against the clock and all double clears get =1st and share the money. They do it this way as they reckon 4 year olds shouldn't jump off - but they do in B.Novice and Discovery!!!!
We now run our 4 year old championship at our august show as an unaffiliated class at 1m as when we asked the competitors they all said they would like to have a champion. Most 4 years by this time in the season have at least jumped discovery if not newcomers.
We normally have a 5 year old championship also.

Scope and the young horse show at Addington in August also run 4 & 5 year old classes. Think Wales and Bicton do too.
