BN/Disco: In all the qualifiers we jumped last year it was only the 1st horse that qualified, bit upsetting as ours came 3rd and 4th in his and the year before would have qualified. You only get 1 chance at a regional
For New/Fox, the first 2 automatically go to HOYS and the top 10 go to SCOPE, where there is also another chance to qualify for HOYS. You get 3 chances at a regional.
Do you think the BSJA don't give a monkeys about lower level competitiors?
To the cynic in me it seems a good way of telling people that they are not dumbing down!
Mind you considering some of the riding I was watching at Badgworth I think its probably a sensible decision that they are so stingy on qualifiers!
Hmm well think we'll be best sticking to quietly progressing through BN Disco NC and Fox rather than trying to qualify for anything at the moment! I'd rather be able to do all 4 classes (obviously not straight away!) than just be able to say that i'd put all my efforts into qualifying for the BN finals! If that makes sense?

DD, was the number of qualifiers down to a low number of starters, or simply that only one qualifies full-stop ? Shame, you got so close too
Didn't realise you could only do 1 second round at BN/Disco either....mind you, that used to be the way the NC and Fox ran too (back in't days when i were a lad

If your horse is going to make the BN finals then realistically you would need to be competitive at at least NC's and probably Fox anyway
there weren't enough starters. 1 was because the shows location got changed 3 days before it ran. I think people look at the fact that only 3 at most can qualify and don't bother entering anymore. It is also very big by the final round and truthfully the average BN horse isn't capable of jumping 1.25 jump offs competively when it has only been jumping a year.
Not only do you only get one go it has has to be in your region. For us this meant that we would have had to go 3 hours nearly into cornwall for ours, when the region next door to us was 20mins from our house for the BN and 30 mins for the Disco. We managed to get dispensation from the BSJA to jump in the other regions but it was a struggle and I know a lot of other people tried and were turned down.
I think so....although it's hard to see how you could do it any other way really
You basically need a very good, consistent youngster, starting right at the start of the qualifying period, who can get the 4 DC's in a couple of weeks, then progress quickly up to NC and Fox
Hell, we all need a horse like that lol!
Alternatively, go to the BSJA website and see if they have lost a large amount of your horses winnings, thus putting him back in BN, and take it from there

I've got my double clears for BN but theres not a chance in hell I'd ever qualify for the finals!
Someone on another forum i go on got her BN d/c's by october time, by the time the regionals came she was compeittive at fox, she qualified for the final by coming second at the regionals and came 3rd in the final overall!
Shes only 17 as well
! Amazing rider and lovely horse, so it is do able but not for the likes of me haha!
He hasn't really got any winnings and i'm not one to push him to get the fastest time, whenever i jump i always just go for a double clear, as i don't want (certainly not for the next year at least) to not be able to do the BN class as to keep his confidence i tend to jump a higher class and then the next time jump the lower class and then the higher class if you get me?
Although i jumped him at home the other night he was a little excitable and fast seemed perfectly confident to me! Think this may be because i haven't really done much jumping with him since last show at beginning of December! (Gave him and me a break over Christmas although can't start again until 4th Feb due to various other commitements unfortunately

Just apply for a new passport and rename him

Nah....he's chipped unfortunately so too traceable

I got my 4th DC at BN before Christmas - what happens now?
I thought the BSJA were supposed to write to me but I haven't had anything!
[/ QUOTE ]
They will write to you after the end of the qualifying period advising you you have qualified and what venue(s) are available to you for your second rounds
I *think* you will be allocated to a specific regional final for BN or Disco, but for NC and Fox you have the choice of upto 3 (according to DD's post earlier)
I know when I jumped a Fox regional final in the days when you could only jump one, and it had to be in your region, we applied to the BSJA to be allowed to jump in a different region as the horse had been lame at the time of the one we were allocated to. They agreed on that occasion.
ETS: You *should* still be able to enter on the day...although back in the days when i did one, everyone entered in advance as the norm anyway
I think for BN/Disc it is end of April and NC/Fox end of May.
You can only go in the region that you are a member of for BN and Disco, which is the problem we had last year. This year if we were doing BN 2nd rounds we would have to go to Scorrier in Redruth Cornwall - I live in Bath, the closest 2nd round is in Bath for Region G but I 'm not supposed to go there as its not my region. Scorrier is 192 miles away and in a car would take 3hr 50 mins according to AA route planner. 8 hours travelling. How absolutly rubbish is that. I regional commitee ought to be shot for giving a second round to cornwall.
No my region is Bath (area 48) , but wilts (Area 42) hold their regional show (which has the BN 2nd round) in Bath and not wiltshire. If you drive 1 mile outside of Bath you are in wiltshire
ETS that Area 48 and Area 42 are in different Regions
It's regions rather than areas so my British Novice was in Kent, Discovery Sussex - neither of which were too much bother for me to get to but it must be awkward if the one you are alloted is miles away.

Oooh....that's rubbish ! How do Area 42 get away with running shows in Area 48 i wonder
Do you know anyone who lives in Area 42 who's address yu could borrow lol!
I haven't got a BN or Discovery horse so not worried this year. Also realistically, if it sticks to the current format the chances of qualifying are nil. Far better to jump the Scope Novice qualifiers, easier to qualify and the final is at the same show.
Well i dunno what area i live in?! Lol i live in Bristol but my horse lives in Gloucester and i always comepete in Glos so gonna be a right pain for me

As you live in Bristol you are Area 48, the same as me, Region J. So you have to go to Tiverton on the 4th August for your BN (If you were Glos it would have been Bath on 12 may) and for Discovery its Scorrier in Redruth on 23 June (I got my BN and Dis mixed up earlier) but if you were Glos it would have been Shipton Moyne on 7th July.
