Not long joined BSJA on my new horse.

Can someone explain what the thing is with "Double Clears"

Somewhere along the line I think I've picked up that it relates to qualifying for something or other???

I've looked at my rule book but dont really know what I'm looking for (just call me stupid!)

If you gain four double clears between dates set by the BSJA in a national class i.e British Novice, Discovery, Newcomers or Foxhunter you are then eligable to compete for the second rounds. If do well and manage to get placed in a qualifing position you are then able to jump in the national final at the festival (BN and Disc) or HOYS (NC and Fox)

Hope that helps!

Thanks RLD!,

How do you know what the dates are? And am I too late to start trying for my double clears?

For British Novice and Disc I think it's from April 1st to March 31st, Newcomers and Fox is June 1st to May 31st. You need 4 double clears within that year. Once the cut off point passes e.g June 1st you have to start over. So you have plenty of time to qualify for next year's second rounds.

Go to the rule book and find the rule that relates to (for instance) British Novice first round, and it has the dates there. They are for BN/Disco May -April and New/Fox June to May to qualify for 2008 regionals.

You've missed the ones for this summer now.

The rule book says 1st May to April 30th

I dont bother with going out of my way to get the double clears (ie. some people go slowly in jump offs etc. so they dont win too much money before getting their class clears). My second rounds are always miles away so Id never do them. Its good to say your horse has them though if you were selling.
