I'm off to my first BSJA show on Saturday - hopefully. The class is classed as 'First round', by what i can tell first rounds run from 1st May - 31st April, what is a first round, what does it mean and when are second rounds - assuming there are second rounds?!

You have to jump 4 first round double clears between those dates to qualify for second rounds of which you can jump only 2 second rounds

Second rounds will be after the dates mentioned but I'm not sure when

As I recall if you get 4 double clears in one season in a class with second rounds such as newcomers than you are eligible to compete in the second round for that year. The second rounds or regional finals are bigger and you may have to travel to a larger centre to find one.BS will tell you if you qualify,if you qualify in the second round you can go for the nationwide final, bigger again I'm afraid.Have a great time at the show!

So this year i can aim for 4 double clears in first rounds and qualify for second rounds next year?

The jumps are bigger - or the show?! BSJA is quite daunting as it is!! x haha x

Thank you x

Yes if you get 4 DC's you qaulify for next years second rounds :)

The jumps are Quite a lot bigger I think! Discovery can be 1.20 ish in 3rd round of the 2nd rounds

british novice and doscovery, you have from 1st may to 30th april the following year to get your four double clears. The regional finals are bigger and all are 3 rounds. You can jump the one in your region and one other and thats it. If you qualify BS will send you details of the venues holding them. The British Novice 3rd round is usually about 1.15m most of the discovery 3rd rounds were 1.25m although i do know of a couple that were small and only ended up 1.15m with one fence at 1.20m. If you jump treble clear you qualify for scope, or depending on how many in it the top so many qualify even if they dont jump treble clear - Newcomers and foxhunter are slightly different qualifying dates and rules but im assuming you arnt jumping those as it will be your first BS show? Hope that helps a bit :) there are lots of other classes, amateur qualifiers etc that start from 90cm up to 1.15m these are a good introduction to but they can be fast in the jump off as open to any grade horse :)
