BSJA "intro" show. Remind me.....

Ive always done the usual BSJA shows! (ie. with BN up to Fox) but there's an 'intro' show coming up which Id quite like to take one of my baby neds to.

I am registered BSJA but this horse is not. Do I have to pay for a ticket in every class? Its weird, some classes say "open to registered horses only" but I thought it said this beside stuff like BN anyway (ie. if your not reg, you have to compete on a ticket)? So can I compete in these?? One class is a National Amateur qualifier so again, would I be allowed to compete in this (but assume I dont get the qualification if I do)??? Can you tell I dont do much competing on tickets.....?!!

Sorry I don't have an answer but I have always been curious about BSJA myself. Often fancied doing a BN or Discovery on a ticket but then like you say, some shows say "open to registered horses only" so I had presumed that meant no day ticketers!
 
An Intro show can contain a mixture of affiliated and unaffiliated classes. To jump the affiliated classes you and your horse must be registered, or jump on a ticket

If you are keeping the horse I would affliate him now. It works out £1.25/week - if it is still £65 for a horse as you are already registered. I don't know how much your tickets are but if there are £5 1 class is equivalent to a months BSJA reg. And you would get placed/qualifications/prize money etc.
 
You would need to buy a ticket for each class. The idea of Intro shows is to encourage new members. Some show centres will have got marketing bumpf from the BSJA which may mean that there are some free tickets to be had - you'd have to check with the show centre.

They also may run an unaffiliated comp before the affiliated, which means that it's all been built properly, and may be worth running your youngster round that.

Ok, so just like normal BSJA - just have to buy a ticket for each non-unaffil class even if it says "for reg horses only".

DiesalDog - I dont think there's enough intro shows round my area to bother affiliating my youngster. Usually its the usual shows which is what my other horse registered horse does. Plus, I dont think he's good enough to reg yet! And also if I reg him and he starts winning money it takes us out of a lot of RC things. You see, he's meant to be my RC 'fun' horse, whereas my other horse is my 'proper' eventer / BSJA horse!

susan_w - The unaffiliated classes are too small. The only reason Im trying the odd BSJA 1m class is because he needs to jump bigger (not respecting tiny fences anymore!) and over proper tracks.
 
If you are jumping 1m classes you don't need to go to an intro show, normal shows start at .90m. understand what you are saying about the RC stuff.

However, if you get placed in a amateur class the notional is £0, but you would get the actual, and you only get the notional money in BN/Dis/NC/Fox if you jump Double clear. So it would probably take you a while to jump out of the RC limit, especially if you jump a lot of amateur classes.

Yeah, Ive never done an intro show before - I usually do the usual shows with my other reg horse but have done 2 on this youngster too. Only reason Im going to do an Intro show is that there's nothing else on on the day so might as well!!
