I'm very new to affiliating and am trying to get my head around the memberships. I have one horse who is owned by my friends who I am looking to affiliate under the riding club offer but confused as to whether the owner has to join as well?

Also, I may wish to register my own youngster at some point too, would I just take a membership out for him and be able to compete him as well with my riding club package or would I have to do something different?

The don't make it very easy for a newbie to understand 🙈🙈🙈

Each horse / pony has to be a member in their own right. Each owner must be a member and each rider. If the rider is under 16 a responsible adult must also be a member if not also a member as the owner. There are a range of different packages depending on exactly what role each has. From time to time there are various special offers for members or pony clubs or riding clubs, or other affiliated disciplines - but these cannot always be combined other than in the obvious child rider / parent / owner type ways.

The staff are usually efficient. If you can't sort it out from the website try giving them a call.

Just to add, if your friend doesn't want to register (which will cost) you can register you as the owner, it doesn't affect anything legal but can make things easier. Many pros do it this way, and I've registered two horses in my name in the past which weren't mine. The only thing is that then the owner wouldn't be named in any published results etc. Who pays for what would be up to you both to agree.
