BSJA.. Must be microchipped??

If horse has never been registered BS then has to be microchipped
or
if horse has been registered before but has lapsed now then has to be microchipped before you can register again.

if currently registered without microchip then doesn't need as long as his membership is renewed each year before expiry date.

So, horse never registered before for BSJA only local shows and unafiliated, so need to chip him if want to do BSJA .... More expense!

You got it, that is what really annoys me about BSJA, or you can go and pay for a day ticket to go and do clear round. Not really worth it. This is why I love BE, you go on day ticket you compete like every body else.

I am pretty much certain you don't need it for riding club. I have been to a riding club championship with my horse that does not have a microchip.

It is a pretty big thing when it can cost around £60 and takes time when you want to get out competing that weekend.

Not exactly a huge expense, think mine cost £17?

Lets face it if you're going BS you'll have spent a wedge on make up and diamantes anyway ;)

And it will stop the age old practice of outgrown ponies being shipped to the other end of the country with a new name, new rider and a clean slate. Was that the main reason behind the decision, do you think?

It is true the chip is that price. But you also have to pay for vet all out (extra £50 if you live round me). And I just wanted to do BSJA while the event season has finished. So defiantly no make up or diamantés for me.

I am not against having horses micro chipped. It is just an extra cost and makes joining more awkward when I just want the experience of the bigger courses and jumping well build courses.

Equally you could say BE makes things more expensive for needing to buy a jockey skull and a back protector for Xc, something you might not have if you only do BS. If you want the experience of jumping bigger courses you need to abide by BS very few rules, I don't see the issue! Just think of the cost as being equivalent to 2-3 start fees, another thing BS don't make you pay for ;)
