Eight years old and ruined. The right thing to do would be to take this pony back to basics, no polework, jumping, no pressure. Instead, as his previous owners have done, advertise as a BSJA and sold on to some other sap impressed by that title. :mad:

What a sorry situation for the pony,passed from pillar to post and still only 8. I really hope the next owner can either sort it and find a suitable job with a suitable rider or do the right thing by the pony, otherwise who knows where it will end up in this climate.

Jewkes, I know/have seen this pony too and it is more than lack of brakes, in fact when I have seen it its not been brakes that is the problem, likewise how sad an 8 yo is getting past from dealer to dealer and probably unsuspecting purchaser to purchaser

What is the poor lad's problem then?
 
I can tell you what its problem is. A person at some point in its life. Made worse by subsequent people/ passing around.
 
The ad would put me off straight away..does,nt ring true to description.Pony does,nt look fit or in good condition, bridle has price tag on !!!..if its a good jumping pony it would be worth so much more...the price reflects the problems and issues it has.I wish sellers would be honest and tell it like it is .This poor pony needs a decent home and lots of time.We bought a wrongly advertised 1st/2nd pony 5 yrs ago....it was a huge learning curve.She is a sharp forward pony who goes like a rocket and needs a very competent and confident rider.She throws in fly bucks and likes to bite and kick in season!....she is still with us and my daughter is now a very competent and sensitive rider because of it.Just hope this pony can find a home that gets right back to basics with schooling and isn,t passed on again and again.There are homes out there that would relish the challenge of bringing out the best in him...but the seller needs to be honest FGS!

I'm sorry I am having a brain dead moment :o - what do you mean? Does he just get a bit wah-hey when jumping and clatter off or is he unreliable all the time?

Either way not a child's pony. I am strangely drawn to him but then again he looks a bit ungenerous (as well he might be after being passed around).

Poor pony.

Save yourself the heartbreak and the likely injury.
Its not safe.
 
I can only say what was overheard that day.
"its dangerous, it don't stop and it don't care niether"
"its got something bad wrong up top" (exact words)
That was from a dealer who has been around years. If she wont touch it then there IS something wrong, because normally she doesn't give a hoot.

It really is scandalous that there's nothing to stop a person selling a pony who is known to be dangerous, to someone for their child. Quite literally, the child could be killed.

I wonder how some people sleep at night. :mad:
 
I have seen this pony mainly on two legs not four! I suspect that the person selling now has been sold the pony from one of two dealers (who he was with to my knowledge) and possibly didnt know the problems existed
 
It sounds like its brains are blown, to much to soon, point and shoot with little to no schooling by the sounds of it.
If i had the time and inclination and was 30 yrs younger, id take it on, put it in a field and let it be a pony for 6 months just working on trust on the ground.
Then have vet check it over, and take it back to the very beginning.
Id have to say, i think its unlikely to have a good outcome, which is very sad
 
Just a little story for all of you that might give you a bit of hope. I bought a pony from a riding school that sounds quite similar, we knew his problems at the time we bought him and spent months with him with me on top (i was 8 at the time) and after 6 months we got him to a reasonable state. He was still naughty but he certainly taught me how to ride, after 4 years we had to sell him as we had tried putting him on loan and he just went back to how he was. We sent him away to be re-schooled but it didn't really work and sold him as a companion. We tried to keep track of where he went and asked for first refusal as we didn't want him to end up as meat. Eventually his owner died and we lost contact with him fearing the worst i put an advert up to hear about how he had got on and if he was still alive on Sunday i got a call that he had been bought as a confidence giver for an 11 year old and was fit and healthy. Once again I have asked for first refusal as determined not to lose him again but hopefully this horse will find a good home too :)
