I've just had a look at my BSJA winnings so far this year and noticed that have 3 double clears in the Discovery. These span from mid August 2012 to now. I'm having trouble navigating the BSJA website and I'm not familiar with showjumping rules as only just affiliated in August. How do I qualify for the second round? What happens at the 2nd round - what will I have to do? Will the jumps be huge? Where will the 2nd round be? I'm Cleveland/North Yorks area. Does this mean I won't be able to jump in Discovery much longer?

You need 4 DC's to qualify second rounds so only 1 off!

The jumps do go up quite a lot but I'm not sure of exact heights.

4 DC's wont put you out of discovery only when your notional winnings goes over £175 :)

To qualify for Discovery 2nd rounds you need 4 double clears in a specified year (I think 1st May to 30th April)
You can then compete in 2 second rounds.
Fences in second round will start at 1.10m in first round and go to about 1.25m by 3rd round
You are out of Discovery (1st rounds) when your NOTIONAL winnings reach £175. The BSJA are quite strict about you entering classes you are not eligible for and it is your responsibility to know your horses winnings, you can't use the website not being up to date as an excuse.

1.25m!!!!!!! Bloomin eck! Better get practising. Are the second rounds local competitions or will I have to travel nationally? So there are 3 rounds, do you have to get placed or jump clears?

I can get on my horses winnings no problem, it's finding these qualifying rules I'm struggling with.

Almost certainly you would need a triple clear to qualify. Up to 25 starters only 1 qualifies, 26-50 starters 2 qualify and 3 qualify if more than 50 start in the class.

When I qualified several years ago my nearest was 80 miles away and my next nearest about 150 but I do live in back of beyond  There should be one not too far from you in Yorkshire

There is one second round in each region, you are allowed to do two, the one in your region and one outside of your region.
The heights have been made smaller, they start at 1m05 now (or they did last year) and all treble clears qualify. However the one I did last year ended up huge!! (1.25m)

Yeah, they will send you a letter, and your 'tickets' at the ebd of the qualifying year so may time.

The venues and dates are on the BS website. (normally under shows i think and you have to look along the left hand side until you find classes and second rounds etc)

Make sure you're still in class limits too! You could always drop down and try and get your BN ones if your still in the money

Still in the money? So by May next year I can't have more than £175 notional???? We've got 175 actual, about 93 notional already!!!! Only been affiliated a few months! I'm really confused now. We only compete once a week, never more than 2 classes but have been placed almost everytime out (there are never many there). Does this mean that if I continue to showjump till May I won't be able to do a 2nd round despite qualifying for it when I have started with zero winnings?

This year our regions Disco 2nd round was at Richmond so nice and local. Sadly that doesn't mean it will be this year though.
