As it says really!

Am I right in saying that you can compete providing that the winnings are no more than £10?

Just to add to this that in the past it has really annoyed me when affilliated bods jump at RC level but my post is just a mere enquiry because someone has asked me the question and I really don't know!

BSJA have a rule about their members not being able to compete in an unaff competition which offers a certain amount of prizemoney (think it's over £10 but you will need to check) so this would apply to a RC hosted competition, however if the RC would pick up on this would be very debatable!

As far as RC team competitions are concerned then if you are competing at RC novice level you cannot have BSJA winnings, the intermediate and open teams allow a set amount of BSJA winnings but I can't remember what it is off the top of my head ! (possibly £100 and £300 but don't quote me!)

You can compete in all Riding Club comps from BSJA point of view as there is never any prize money!

However RC set limits - Novice SJ can have no winnings, Intermediate up to £150 and open £500

There's nothing wrong with affiliated people doing RC as long as they're eligible!

I think novice SJ you can have some winnings...... but not much. I do know you cant do Open level at area's if you've won £500+ BSJA.

Why?

I always see affiliated people competing at RC level. But again, the riding club sets limits on the amount of winnings one can have to compete, depending on the level.

I dont think being 'registered' affects you, its how much you've won?

Hi dieseldog,

Bit of sour grapes really but my gripe stems back to many years ago when I very 1st started competing at a small local novice show (very low key)
Living in the area there used to be a girl who was affilliated (ponies) and when there wasn't any aff shows on she would come to our novice show and always win! She was always going to beat us novices! - It was like taking candy off of a baby!
It's just one of my only experiences with affilliated ponies jumping at unaff shows against unaff competitors so it's kind of stuck!
Things have very much moved on from those days!

But if she had been any good then surely she would have lots of BSJA winnings in which case she should have been ineligible..... I think in that case - its the venue which is at fault for not setting better winning limits.

Just because someones registered BSJA, doesnt mean they're always particularily good! Remember that BSJA starts at like 80cm nowadays

I'm surprised at this as our JA ponies would never had stood a chance if we had taken them to unaffliated shows!

Good BSJA ponies are trained to jump bigger and more technical courses off a forward stride but would NEVER be able to keep up with those ultra quick unaff ponies who bomb round taking turns like motorbikes !!
