when you join the bsja is your horse known by the name on his passport or can you call it what you want? our lad just has a bog standard passport,no breed papers etc. i read on a post that they were known by the name on the passport but having looked at the horse/pony registration form there is a section for a choice of 3 names? ash really doesnt want to use his passport name as its hannibal , although previous owners renamed the horse otto whch is how we have always known him , and he has a totally different name for shows which is what she would like to have him registered as.
also do i need to print off an application form or will the bsja send me one, i dont have a printer hooked up to the lappy so cant print anything off it!
does membership run from the date you join or is it yearly from jan to jan etc.
any help on how to get the horse registered would be appreciated as i dont have a scoobies, i have looked at the bsja site and still none the wiser! daughter needs a junior associate membership as neddy is 16hh and i know i need to become a non jumping member but thats all i know!
thanks in advance

My horses name on his passport is bug and his bsja name is different so just put your first choise in box one, and 2 more choices in case the name has already gone.
Phone the bsja for a form if you have no printer.
membership runs for a year frm the date u join.

its more relevant when the horse has a passport issued by a breed society. BUT even though Fleur's passport says 'Taniti Fleur' she is registered with the BSJA as 'Tanti Fleur'. I had written Taniti on the forms and it clear on passport that went with forms but saying that we missed it for nearly 2 years and far prefer Tanti to Taniti so we haven't flagged up the mistake

BE infact made exactly the same mistake as well when Tigers_eye took her in a pavo class well I think they did!!! LOL

thanks for that link, the name has been taken so will have to change it slightly when we register him. dont know what we will change it to though, probably best to add a roman numeral or something to it.
cheers

I believe if your horse is issued with breed society papers the BSJA will insist on using the passport name (that coincides with the breed papers). In the case of duplicates they will add a roman numeral or number to differntiate between horses of the same name. Under certain circumstances you can change the horses name, but I think they will charge you a hefty fee for the privilege

They'll only charge you a hefty fee, if the horse is already registered. If it's a new registration, you can call it what you like, as long as it hasn't already been taken.

It's easy to check now as it's online.
