BSJA rules - notional vs actual

whilst doing a bit of research on my news horse i have printed out her bsja record - could someone please tell me the difference between notional and actual winnings and also position? Sorry to be a thicky - i am not affiliated - yet! thankyou.

Actual winnings are what the horse has actually won and notional winnings are a portion of the winnings and thats what goes down on the horses card to prevent it moving up throgh the grades too quickly (I think).

thanks - so under her winnings to date it says pos 7 actual 12 notional 4, total 14 what does that mean (think i must be being really silly!)

That the previous owner got 7th place in a class, for coming in that place they got £12 in their hand to take home, but only £4 goes on her card. The notional is the amount that you have to worry about with grade boundries etc it it is to make sure that all horses go up at the same pace e.g. different centres give different prize money for places but the notional money is always the same

I'm not explaining it very well sorry!
