BSJA SOLIHULL RIDING CLUB YESTERDAY!

that is a normal (i.e 90cm) british novice.

There arn't 'novice' graded shows they are called Intro and can hold a highest height of a brit novice and are rare.

Progressive is for classes from Brit Nov to newcomers and Advanced is New to as big as you want. Progressive and advanced can be combined as above if a show runs Brit Nov to fox for example.

the sunday one is a normal BN as well they just haven't changed the sponsor

Also Solihull doesn't even have a wniter novice qualifier this year so def couldn't have been one

Well, welcome to the world of BSJA

Confusion reigns over everything, and classes change their names overnight lol!

From the picture you have posted flintus, i would say that was a *strong* 90cm (3ft). BSJA courses will almost always look bigger than unaffiliated courses of the same height...generally because the spreads are much bigger (usually a max spread is 10cms greater than the max height of the class). They also tend to look more solid as they incorporate heavy fillers and bright fences lol!

The class you jumped was a 2-phase class as well, meaning that the jump-off fences were already up in the ring when you did your 1st round...and I always think that gives the whole course a bigger feel ! Don't forget that the fences in the JO section can go up by as much as 10cms (4") too

I'm sure that after a couple of days out BSJA'ing you will both be feeling a lot more confident than you were yesterday too

Stick with it...it is worth it, if you can get over the initial shock

i wasnt shocked riding it just walking it! and all these diff names is confusing if u dont know alot about it all! i think when i jumped flint upto 3'6ft un affiliated at weston lawns they didnt seem to come up so big and your right so wide, and theres the diff between un afilliated and affiliated classes! never jumped him indoors so cant knock the lad for tryin! all i can say its lets hope we do better next time!

I wouldnt have said looking at the picture that the fence was massive for British Novice plus Solihull tend to build small - but if people were complaining then who am I to say it wernt over height!!

Solihull do normally have a Winter Novice qualifer (Hickstead) may have been the end of last year!! This Sunday they have a Blue Chip Star qualifier - so I aint going - will be hundreds there!!!

Did someone say Weston Lawns was on this weekend? That affiliated? Didnt think it started till March ??

un affiliated at weston lawns, it doesnt start till march. its funny we havnt been able to get a right or wrong answer, you've said solihull build small others say the build them up. either way i'll be going again it hasnt put me off now i know wat to expect

Yeah the best thing to do is just get going and once you have jumped a few you wont think anything of it... most venues do unfortunately vary in height. For instance if you were to go to Gracelands (sorry im guessing you local to me since you have been to Solihull and Weston Lawns) Chris always builds up to height as they do at Markfield.. But if you go to Bromyard or Hartpury.. they tend to build small - or lets say more forgiving!!

im in north warwickshire so i think im near u!! i just thought they wud be smaller, but i always start with a 2 foot something to get him warmed up and yesterday is was one british novice, looking forward to going next week!

RAMBO ! Thanks for that im going next wednesday i have been told this course builder doesnt build as big i wouldnt normally moan about the height but as it was my first bsja with my new horse surpose i found it unfair but hey i`ll just keep trying the more i do im sure the smaller they will get if u knw what i mean xx

Which class is the blue chip qualifier on sunday why doesnt it tell u this info on the schedules ?

[/ QUOTE ]

If there's a Blue Chip qualifier on the schedule, it will tell you that. There's specific wording on the BSJA website for placement into the schedules. A Star qualifier will be called just that....but if you thought a BN was big, I wouldn't recommend jumping a Star...it's 20cms higher....and likely to be built bang up to height as it's open to ANY horse

ETS: The Star qualifier at Towerlands had about 120 starters in it btw

SRC are very good with thor courses and have an excellent builder we compete there a lot and yes the course is not an easy one but has been said before it can be jumped, remember you are jumping affilliated so they will be up to height and that looks right for BN,my daughter jumps Discovery on her 15'3 TB and she copes fine.

Perhaps you should jump a few more unaffilliated courses to get your confidence at jumping big tracks.

Don't let it put you off keep going did you ump the first class to get a warm up first?
