For BSJA, what's the difference between single phase and two phase? I know one of them is a separate jump off and one of them runs straight into a timed jump off after a clear round but I can't remember which is which! Can someone please enlighten me?!

The difference is about £1 per jump if you have one down!!!

Single phase is great as even if you make a mistake (bar elimination) you can finish the course. Its usually around 12 fences.

In two phase the dreaded bell goes if you have one down and you have to leave the arena. This is generally a 14 fence course and you get buzzed out after fence 8 if you have one down.

With single phase it is your score over the entire course and not just the JO that counts.

If you had 4 faults in the first non timed bit and went clear in the JO with a time of 30 seconds you would beat someone who went clear in the first bit and had a fence in the JO in a time of 32 seconds.

That seems a bit harsh! Especially since you'll essentially be teaching your horse to knock a fence down, bell rings and then he gets to go out and relax.. Hmm - there's some sort of Pavlov's reflex there but I can't quite put my finger on it..

Wait until he learns the 2 stops at the first fence bell then

Doesn't even need to leave the ground

i've never been asked to leave, are you sure thats right? IME you jump the first bit, say 1-9 and then if you went clear you get to jump the rest of the course 10-15 for example. the clock starts at the beginning of the 2nd part. i cant see how they could judge the comp if they didnt let you finish, i mean what if everone had a pole down?

It doesn't go straight away unless they hi the last fence in a two phase - you could have 8 fences down and then they would ring a bell.

So they don't learn that way, but yes the b*ggers do learn 2 stops and I get to leave. A fortune in HC rounds later they finally get out of this habit!!!

nope I don't get this........ I'm jumping two 2 phase classes on Sunday, please explain in simpleton terms what the hell happens...... So if I have a fence down between 1-9 and the bell goes- I have to leave the arena?? Or do I jump the whole lot ie 1-14 even if I have some down between 1-9?? Arrrrggghhh!?

if you are jumping a two phase class then you will have a course of, say, 1-14.

so, phase one will be 1-7 - this is NOT timed and if you have a refusal or a pole then the bell will sound when you have landed after fence 7 and you leave the ring

if you go clear you carry straight on from fence 7 onto fences 8-14 and this phas is timed

essentially the winner will be the fastest clear ver phases one and two then the fastest clear and four etc etc
