I've got to decide this week between going to Blue Sky on the 1st or Stainsby Grange on the 2nd. I've never been to Blue Sky and its years since I went to Stainsby so does anyone know which is the better venue and which would have the nicest British Novice - I don't mind if its a big solid course so long as the approaches and distances are fair. Would be interested to hear anyone's opinions. Thanks

Please can you say NE ENGLAND when you say this. Sorry but HHO covers the whole of the UK and the NE to me means NE of the UK which is NE Scotland!

On your topic - why dont you go to both BSJA's?

Out of interest where is Blue Sky? I'm not in the NE (UK) anymore but I always thought Stainsby Grange was a great venue and as they have all got kids at the top of junior showjumping now I can't imagine that the venue is anything other than better than it was years ago.

Have you been to Holmside EC?

I don't suppose you know anyone with an horse in her early twnties called Jenny do you?? 16hh bay mare. I posted a note but it hasn't come to anything. Sorry to bother just know last owner was from Co Durham too.

Cheers

See to me - North East means Northumberland, Tyneside and Teesside. Even when I lived in Bristol and people asked me where I was from and I said the NE they automatically said I must be a Geordie - noone assumed I meant I was Scottish.
Coincidentally if someone posted about BSJA in SW would you want them to clarify if they meant SW England or Scotland as I would automatically assume they meant Cornwall, Devon etc. If I opened the post and found it wasn't what I expected I simply wouldn't reply.

Hi Moody mare - yes as you've seen in my post I have been to Holmside although if you have been away from the area for a while you might be thinking of Josie's Holmside Park whereas it was Danielle Quigley's Holmside Hall I was at on Saturday which is a brand new venue just up the road from "old" Holmside.
Blue Sky is at Longhorsley near Morpeth - I believe it used to be known as Potland Farm. I've never been there but I have been to Stainsby - recently to do dressage but not for over 10 years for SJ so imagine its changed quite a bit. I've heard mixed reviews about both venues hence my post. I've heard the courses can be quite tight and twisty at Stainsby - not that that is necessarily a problem as such but as we are just starting out I want to go to as many easy venues as possible to start out with. I went to Northallerton last week and although the course was quite big (why when they should all be 90 I'm not sure) it was a nice course with good approaches and the distances suited my forward striding horse so I'd like to continue on courses like that.
My Jenny is the bay to the left of my signature - she's a lot younger than the horse you are looking for. She originally came from Malcolm Pyrah - she is by one of his stallions - and I know her history from him to me. I will keep an eye out for you though if you think your Jenny might still be SJing I might bump into her.

If someone said SW, then no I wouldnt think SW Scotland - I would think SW of the UK which is Cornwall etc. Just as NE of the UK is Grampian in Scotland. Sorry if you think I offended you, it just irritates me when people assume everyone is in England when we're not. Can't you just put in the county?

Thanks ! No I don't think she will be jumping still in reality, she's in her early 20s by now and I suspect she will have some arthritis problems in her back legs. I've always regretted selling her even though it was the right thing to do at the time.

Your's sounds and looks lovely !

Yes I was probably getting mixed up with the old Holmside. Its 15 years since I sold Jenny and only got back into ownership last October. I'm from Hartlepool originally, been in Leicestershire for five years now.

Sounds like there's plenty to do up there now ! I put my Jenny on loan to someone for a while and she initially kept her at Holmside, hadn't been open that long at that time.

Jenny was by a local stallion, Moorhouse. I probably will never find out but in someways at least this means I can assume she's still happy in her new home !

Have fun !

i think the courses are better at blue sky, (as ann-jen said they are a bit twisty at stainsby) and i have found that stainsby can be full of horribly competitive children throwing tantrums when they don't win! but that's just my opinion, and as i only use bsja as an outing and education for my horses what would i know!

Don't worry you haven't offended me at all. It's not something I would give any thought to. I wouldn't just ask by county as tbh there isn't all that many venues in County Durham itself and so I often travel into North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and what used to be Cleveland. I certainly don't assume everyone is from England as HHO is actually multi continantal and not just the UK. As I am from Co Durham I would expect the majority of people who opened the thread realised that I meant the region around me - I will call it area 12/12a/15 in the future if that makes you happier.

Ahh well I'm from Stockton originally so we're both Teessiders then. If you think she might remember I could ask Josie if she remembers your Jenny as I will be at "old" Holmside on the 9th for the British Novice. The only other thing I can think of if you wanted to follow it up is the stallion you mentioned also happens to be the name of a horsebox manufacturer just outside Stockton so its just possible they might have some info about your mare - a bit of a slim chance I suppose but you never know.

Hi Jencash - its a good course I'm looking for so perhaps Blue Sky might be a better bet then. I'll be there on senior day so hopefully no bratty kids but I know a few adults that have tantrums too so who knows - LOL!

I don't think she'd remember. I took Jenny back off the girl because she was a bit too quick with her whip and had her on loan somewhere else before I decided to sell her. I sold her to someone with a farm but then lost track. A few years later Freezemark contacted me because I hadn't released the freezemark papers and her new owner wanted to change them into her name. I asked FM to get her to contact me which she did and it sounded like Jenny had ended up in a lovely home. I was able to confirm that she was a few years older than she'd been sold as and by Moorhouse. I'm sure she'll still be going bless her. I was trying to think of Josie's name the other day so at least you've cleared that memory loss up for me !!

Personally, I prefer blue sky eventhough the warm up resembles a beach.
I havent been to stainsby on horses but i struggled with the narrowness and twistyness of the courses on my 148 so i dont suppose it will be much differnt on my 160!

Is blue sky deffo on on the 1st?
If so is it the usual schedual with the 1m AM, 105 ect?
Thanks.

I've just looked on the BSJA website and there isn't a list of classes for the 1st atm. I will check my show directory when I get home and let you know. I might give them a ring to double check its still running as the junior show the following week has all the details up.
