Help please!!!

We've entered our first BSPS First Ridden M&M class and I've just read in the BSPS handbook that 'judges will penalise ponies that are excessively clipped or trimmed' . Our Section B is clipped out apart from legs. However, her mane, tail, feathers are all au naturel.

I understood that it was ok to clip (but not legs) so I went ahead and did it, bit regretting it now.

Can anyone shed any light or give any advice please?

Thank you xxxx

Thankyou...but her face is clipped too !!! It was so hairy it looked ridiculous against her clipped neck, so I had to do it.... x

The idea behind the rule is that the pony should only be clipped for the work it's doing to make it comfortable and not for aesthetic. Your more likely to get away with a full clip in working hunter than lead rein or first ridden

It will be dependant on the judge I'm afraid, no point worrying as you can't stick the hair back on!

clipping of faces is fine on a section b.
Provided herlegs, mane and tail arenatural you will be fine at this time of year. Fresh clipping after around April is frowned on though

I hope they don't penalise you, but I missed out on a hoys qualification due to a blanket clip, but she was far too hairy to not clip her for the work she was doing. Good luck though

Thanks for the replies. My daughter jumps her at home, and we had to clip her, she'd have been so uncomfortable otherwise. I would still like them to do the show, they've put in so much work...just really don't want my daughter to get disheartened if she doesn't get placed, its taken a long time to build up her confidence for competing xx

I have the same problem so I asked someone who shows section D's and she told me that as long as feathers are still there its fine so you should be ok!

Is the pony freshly clipped???

As per WPCS rules - fresh clipping for early shows is NOT allowed. So sorry, last clip before New Year is latest clip any of my Welshies would get. It's fine to clip fully, leaving legs on but NOT after end December.

Just found this statement in the WPCS showing rules:
10.8 Clipping

Animals four years old or over, which have been clipped for winter activities can be shown and should not be penalised. Judges must take special note of this. Legs must not be clipped. Please note: youngstock must not be clipped out.

Most BSPS judges are sympathetic towards children, the judge will probably ask your daughter when the pony was last clipped and about the work that she does. If the pony hunts or does other hard work which means that she would be uncomfortable without the clip, all will be well. But please do explain to your daughter that every-one there will think that their pony is the best in the class and that regardless of the clip, yours may not be placed. The mark of a good day is that your pony behaved well in the ring and that pony and rider did their best, even if they did not win a rosette.

BSPS rules would over ride the WPCS if it's a BSPS show
Go and have fun - good advice from Pearlsasinger

WPCS have obviously revamped their rules as this is how it read as of November 2015

9.7.6. Fresh clipping for spring shows is not permissible.

Note to self. Go read the new updated version of WPCS rules!!!!!

Just a quick update ....we went to the show today and many of the ponies were clipped. We came home with 2 firsts and a second :) :) xxxx

I don't know what other people use but I have a photobucket account that I upload pics to and then copy the IMG code and paste in reply. That's how I've done it with other forums and I believe how you do it here too.
