New pony (5 1/2 yr old) is really chewing on her bit and is getting tongue over and back again and therefore obviously not comfortable or consistent in contact. When we viewed her she was in a jointed rubber snaffle and she did the same. I am not particularly keen on a single joint so changed her to a French link and she is still fussing, chewing and grinding the actual bit and getting tongue over. She looks to have quite a small mouth and the French link is very light and thin. Do you think she needs something a bit more substantial? Have raised the cheek pieces but don't feel comfortable with them holding the bit any higher than it is currently as it is already crickling the corners of the lips,
